The encounter was so unusual that all four flight attendants kept talking about it for the rest of the day.

Not every passenger interaction goes smoothly, and flight attendants sometimes have to handle challenging situations. TikTok user and flight attendant Emily York, who goes by @itsemilyyork, experienced just that when she asked a passenger to leave the last row of seats, which was reserved for the crew and medical emergencies. While sharing details of the encounter on September 24, 2026, she revealed that instead of returning to his assigned seat, the passenger said something that left her baffled.

York explained that the last row of seats is often kept available for flight attendants to sit during breaks or for medical emergencies. When she noticed a man in his late 20s or early 30s sitting there, she politely told him the seats were reserved and asked him to return to his assigned seat. He initially moved, so she assumed the matter was settled. But when another flight attendant approached him and repeated the request, he challenged them and said, “Show me proof that this is for you.” He even asked to speak to the in-charge flight attendant, who made it clear that he needed to follow the crew's instructions and return to his seat.

York said the encounter left all four flight attendants talking about it for the rest of the day. She couldn't understand why the passenger thought he was entitled to sit wherever he wanted when he'd already been assigned a seat. She also pointed out that passengers agree to follow the airline's rules when they buy a ticket. The in-charge flight attendant eventually stepped in and told him to sit down, though York joked that she delivered the message much more politely than she would have liked.

Many internet users were frustrated by what happened. @skellington_king commented, "My daughter always insists on booking the last row of any flight she takes. I hope you don't mind sitting with her." @pennickdime wrote, "This is not your assigned seat, and for weight and balance purposes you need to sit in your assigned seat." Meanwhile, @jacobkincaid704 had a blunt suggestion: "Introduce him to the no-fly list."

York's experience wasn't the only time a flight attendant had to deal with a passenger who refused to follow the rules. In a similar incident, a flight attendant faced two passengers, each carrying two oversized bags. When she explained that each passenger could put only one bag in the overhead bin and had to store their personal item under the seat, one man refused to listen and began yelling at her, asking, “What are you going to do about it?” She stayed calm and told him his behavior was unacceptable, then gave him the choice to leave or be escorted off the plane. After she alerted security and the pilots, the man was removed from the flight.
