Flight attendant caught a passenger stowing his backpack by an emergency life raft after a warning — her calm response left him speechless
Most people would probably think twice before ignoring a safety instruction on a plane, especially after a flight attendant has already explained why it matters. But one passenger decided the rule did not apply to him. A flight attendant and Instagram creator, Kassidy Rae, who posts as @kassidy_raee, shared the story on July 17, 2026, about a passenger who placed his backpack in front of an emergency life raft despite being told not to. When she caught him doing it again at the end of the flight, she chose to give a calm response to him that left him embarrassed.
According to Kassidy, the incident happened while passengers were boarding the flight. She noticed the man had placed his backpack in front of the life raft, in an area clearly marked “no stowage.” She took the bag down herself and explained, “This says no stowage, and this is actually our life raft, so you cannot put anything in front of this.” The man simply replied, “Okay,” and boarding continued. But when it was time for everyone to leave the plane, Kassidy noticed that he had somehow put the backpack back in the same spot. She was stunned that he had ignored the warning and moved it there again. Instead of making a scene, she told him, “Next time, please don’t ever put your backpack in front of the life raft. That is incredibly dangerous.”

He said, “Yeah, whatever,” and moved on. The incident inspired Kassidy to joke that passengers who knowingly ignore safety rules should charge a $200 fine. “Immediate fine, two hundred dollars. I take cash or Venmo,” she said. She also mentioned seeing someone vape a weed pen on a plane and argued that people might follow the rules if they knew there were consequences.
Her idea sparked plenty of reactions in the comments, with several people agreeing that passengers can become surprisingly entitled once they board a plane. Before this, another passenger refused to follow a simple baggage rule after being told that only one bag could be placed in the overhead bin. Instead of cooperating, the passenger became rude and challenged the attendant, forcing her to involve the pilots and security. She remained calm throughout the situation and stood by the airline’s safety rules, eventually getting the passenger removed from the plane. It can be frustrating for flight attendants when passengers knowingly ignore rules that are in place for a reason.
