Flight attendant gave CPR for 30+ minutes to a passenger in cardiac arrest at 30,000 feet — what others around her were doing left her unsettled

The incident left the crew member reflecting on how people today seem to have little sensitivity toward the suffering of others.

Medical emergencies during a flight can leave passengers and crew facing a frightening situation with very little time to respond. For one flight attendant, a routine journey became a deeply upsetting experience when a woman on board suffered a cardiac arrest at 30,000 feet. The crew immediately began trying to save her life, while the attendant responded to the medical emergency in the aircraft aisle. However, what she noticed around her during those critical moments left her questioning how people respond to another person's suffering. She described the incident in a Threads post shared on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, under the handle @novisangell.

The flight attendant explained that the crew did everything possible to help the passenger, including performing CPR and using a bag-valve mask to support her breathing. The efforts continued for more than 30 minutes as the attendant worked on the woman on the floor of the aircraft. She described being on her knees, with her skin scraped and bleeding from the carpet, while trying to keep up the life-saving efforts. Yet, as she struggled to help the passenger, she noticed that some people nearby had taken out their phones and were recording the emergency.

The sight deeply disturbed her, as the woman was going through one of the most vulnerable moments of her life. The attendant wrote that she was "sweating, praying, heartbroken for this woman and her family" while continuing CPR. She could not understand why anyone would choose to film such a private and painful situation instead of respecting the passenger's dignity.

The experience left the flight attendant upset about how casually some people treated a serious medical emergency. She believed the passenger deserved privacy and respect, particularly when her life was at risk, and her family could be facing an uncertain future. Her post questioned why recording had become an automatic response even during moments that called for compassion. She expressed her frustration by writing, "I hate the way this world has made everything so casual!"

Medical emergencies require urgent attention, but they also call for sensitivity toward the person affected. In another similar incident, a former flight attendant was performing CPR on a passenger who had suffered a medical emergency during a flight. Another crew member was also helping with resuscitation, while the rest of the cabin watched in silence. The crew was focused on saving the passenger's life, making one woman's question particularly unexpected.

In the middle of the emergency, the woman approached the former attendant and asked, "Excuse me... when will you be serving the meal?" Her question left him speechless, as the crew was still trying to save someone's life. The timing of her request seemed completely out of place, given the seriousness of the situation unfolding just a few steps away. While passengers were waiting for updates, she appeared more concerned about the meal service. The incident showed how important it is to remain aware of others' circumstances and treat emergencies with respect.
