Flight attendants have a code of conduct and a set of responsibilities they have to follow as a part of their job. However, there are other things that they don't have to do, even if it is a common request made by passengers. A former flight attendant recently revealed a common request that many passengers make and why an attendant would most likely decline the same most of the time. The woman, Kat Kamalani, who goes by @katkamalani on TikTok, took to the platform to share what she knew from her experience.

A woman, @kaylakayla.1999, wondered, "Someone, please tell me why putting your carry-ons in the overhead bins is so humiliating?" Kamalani made a video in response and said, "Hi there, flight attendant for six years. I have three tips that are going to help you with your anxiety and the luggage and they are going to be life-changing for you." She added, "The first rule is that if you can't lift it, don't bring it. So try at home if you can lift it above your head and if you can't take some stuff out." The second tip that the former flight attendant shared was that most airlines would have placard cards that would show a person how to store their luggage. "So, it's either going to go horizontal or vertical. So if you can just take a look at that, it saves so much time and is so much easier."

The third tip that Kamalani shared was to ask for assistance. She shared a fun fact along with that. "Everybody thinks that it is a flight attendant's job to lift your luggage into the bins, but it is not. Actually, our airlines, a ton of airlines, tell you do not do this because there are so many injuries with it. So if we get injured, it's not even covered." She continued, "So ask someone to 'assist' you and they will help you." The video received more than 5 million views and over 405k likes. People took to the comments section of the video to express their thoughts and share their experiences with the same.

@mhous13 wrote, "As someone who is 5ft, it’s more of a height issue than a weight one. Especially with the new planes and updated bins!" @cvntycarter commented, 'Your flight attendant will NOT assist you. This is against many policies now. If they touch it, they tag it. Ask another passenger, not your crew." @justaregularpotato remarked, "I had an embarrassing moment with this cabin bag thing. I was trying to put mine and my knees gave up, so I laughed it out and the flight attendant told me I should have just checked in my baggage and that the limit had been crossed. I walked almost 20k steps that day and when the flight came, I was so tired and drained that my knee gave out while putting on my cabin bag. It was a full flight and my first, so embarrassing."

@ruchibprajapati shared, "I am a very short person and I remember one time a flight attendant straight up refused me, saying it's not their job and that they're not allowed." @mmmlo2020 expressed, "That was way larger than carry-on size… that should have been checked in. No wonder there is never any space for everyone’s carry-on."
