Flight attendant warned a parent that a child’s call button game could signal an emergency — the reply caught her off guard
Rules and procedures are set up in an aircraft to ensure the journey is smooth and safe for everyone. However, some passengers find it impossible to adhere to them. A flight attendant and content creator, Savannah, shared one such experience after noticing a young child repeatedly pressing the call button during a flight. In a TikTok video shared through her account, @savannah0191, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, she recalled politely speaking to the child's parent, explaining why she needed the youngster to stop, only to be met with an unexpected defense.
Savannah said she approached the parent in a calm and friendly way rather than making a scene. She explained that if the child needed anything, the crew would be more than happy to help, but the service button should not be used as a toy. She also pointed out that the device was kept there to assist passengers, and repeatedly pressing it would indicate an emergency. It would cause miscommunication and inconvenience for the cabin crew. Instead of acknowledging the staff member or admitting the error, the mother blatantly replied, "He's just having a good time." The unexpected response left the flight attendant surprised.
"Okay, let's just have a good time differently," she remarked, with a smile. The motive was not to stop the child from having fun, but to prevent unnecessary confusion during the flight. Since she knew children can be naturally curious about controls and buttons, she wanted to handle the situation calmly, but the entitled response highlighted how frustrating it can be to deal with some passengers. In another incident, a man found himself dealing with an unruly mother and a child on a packed plane. He was seated by the window, while the duo had the middle and aisle seats. The kid started crying and asking for the window seat, so the parent requested the man to give it up.
The passenger politely refused, stating that he gets claustrophobic. Instead of respecting his decision, she became angry and accused him of pretending. The disagreement quickly grew, prompting the flight attendant to intervene. She ultimately offered the man a business-class upgrade, but the mom was still complaining. Other travelers were also frustrated with the whole situation, and the parent was warned that any more problems would lead to an escalation. Eventually, the pilot was involved, and after hearing both sides, he asked the mom to take her family and get off the aircraft. He later even apologized to the traveler and fellow flyers on board.
