Former flight attendant passed out halfway through a 15-hour flight as a passenger — the scare left her warning travelers about one simple rule
Traveling via air is undoubtedly one of the quickest and most convenient ways to travel. However, there are a few precautions to be taken to ensure a smooth experience. A former flight attendant, Rhony Claire, who goes by @rhonyclaire on TikTok, shared a story from the time she was working with an airline. In her post dated May 11, 2026, she mentioned boarding a flight, not as a staff member but as a passenger. Her grandma had passed away, and so she was already anxious about the journey. Halfway through the 15-hour trip, she passed out and needed oxygen to breathe. The reason prompted her to share a caveat with fellow flyers.

Claire slept through the first seven hours and decided to use the restroom. The moment she stood up, she began feeling uneasy. As she walked to the lavatory, she felt hot flushes. A few seconds later, she passed out, causing her to hit her head on the emergency slide raft attached to the back door. The cabin crew surrounded her, checking on her and following protocol. She was lifted and put on the jumpseat, but recalled being unable to regain consciousness. She explained that it was crucial for passengers to eat something every few hours on flights and also get up to stretch in between. Both these practices can help maintain healthy blood sugar and blood pressure levels and reduce the risk of blood clots, respectively.
Since she had been a flight attendant, Claire had a different understanding of air travel. She had witnessed passengers' experiences and had a lot of knowledge about the same. This factor, along with a packed cabin and the passing of her grandma, left her anxious as soon as she boarded. But that alone wasn’t what caused her to feel dizzy. It was likely that her blood sugar dropped, causing her to pass out. One of the staff members asked if she had eaten anything and gave her some juice. They even gave her a snack, but because she had her Invisaligners, she couldn’t eat properly. Ultimately, the cabin crew was forced to put her on oxygen before she felt better.
According to the National Blood Clot Alliance, movement is necessary during flights, where a person is restricted to one posture for hours. There are in-seat exercises, such as ankle rolls, knee lifts, shoulder rolls, arm curls, neck rolls, and other stretches to ensure circulation. It is also recommended to use the aisles to walk and stretch if possible. Additionally, passengers are encouraged to stay hydrated and keep their feet elevated using the leg rests. Dr. Heather Denniston, a keynote speaker and wellness strategist, shared the importance of having a bite during such trips.
Along with exercise and movement, she explained that it is crucial to have the right practices while flying. These include using a pillow to support proper posture and eating well. Dr. Denniston recommends packing light, healthy snacks. Fruits and veggies are the best options, and processed foods are best avoided. Claire admitted that the ordeal was embarrassing for her, especially since she was a cabin crew member at the time, but she decided to share her story so passengers can benefit from it.
