Sometimes in complex situations, a person ends up pulling all possible resources to find a solution. A girl named Lexie, whose dress ripped minutes before she was about to leave for her prom, found herself in a similar predicament. There was a gaping tear at the side of her dress, and she was running short on time. But then her mom came up with an ingenious idea to fix the rip, and the internet was stunned. Lexie's older sister, Allie Kamps–who goes by @alliekamps on TikTok–shared her mom's brilliant hack.

Lexie was about to leave for the location her friends had picked for photos and was filming a TikTok transition, after which her dress ripped open from the side, per PEOPLE. The panicked girl called for her mom when she noticed the large rip. She was ready to go to the mall and get a new dress when her 54-year-old mother, Amy, stepped in. To make matters worse, the family had just moved into a new house and all of their stuff wasn't there yet. That meant that Amy didn't have a sewing kit either. She tried to fix the dress in the usual ways a few times, but nothing worked. Amy then realized she had to stitch the dress somehow with the resources she had.

"I literally had to think fast about what I had access to in a house we don’t even live in yet," Amy said, per the outlet. She went through the house to try and figure out what she could use and opened the bathroom drawer. She spotted a dental floss and decided it would work as a thread. To feed the floss through the dress, she found some bobby pins and grabbed some cuticle scissors to poke holes in the dress for the bobby pins to get through. "My daughter was panicking, ready to leave and find a new dress, but I just said, 'Nope, we're going to figure this out.' Stitch by stitch, the dress started coming back together, and Lexie calmed down." She fixed the dress within 5 minutes.

Kamps filmed her mom stitching her sister's dress with the unique tools and wrote in the video, "Officially convinced that there isn't a single problem my mom can't solve." She even called her mom a "superhuman." People shared their thoughts on the hack in the comments. @amandamandamanda wrote, "Dental floss is also useful to sew up wounds in an emergency…in case anyone cares." @user7697 commented, "This happened to me during my prom. A place that did the alterations didn't reinforce the stitching. My home economics teacher sewed me up with stuff from her purse. Women are amazing."

@ebc_qf remarked, "Dental floss is stronger than the average sewing thread you can find, and way cheaper and I never thought to use a bobby pin instead of a sewing needle. Your mom knows her stuff." @manderscc shared, "My mom sewed my best friend into her bridesmaid dress 30 minutes before going down the aisle. The bride never knew. Hope to be this mom one day." Kamps also posted the aftermath of the whole ordeal, and her sister was posing confidently in her fixed dress.
