Grieving Lyft driver was missing late wife terribly on NYE — until passengers' request turned his bad day around

Celebrations throughout the year, including Christmas and New Year’s are exceptionally challenging for people who recently lost loved ones. In the grieving stage, it becomes difficult for them to find joy on such occasions. However, they deserve support and love to know they’re not alone. A Lyft driver, Vincent, had lost his wife some months ago and was having a hard time. It was the holiday season and he had been doing his duty, driving passengers to parties and celebrations while his heart was grieving. Noticing his plight, a passenger (@vantothahessa) and her friends went out of their way to cheer him up.

The woman mentioned that she was conversing with the driver and learned that his wife had passed away in September. After understanding that the man had been mourning his wife's death and remembering her, they decided to do something to make him smile. “We asked if we could take him out for a drink to make his night better,” the text overlay read. The driver agreed and they had a blast just hanging out and grabbing their drinks. Vincent was mindful of the fact that he was driving and only picked a soda for himself. The video captured the passengers and the driver clinking their glasses together with smiles and joy.

Vincent even paid for the drinks and gave the women a free ride to their houses for their kindness. With dancing, karaoke and more, the women managed to turn the gloomy day into a wholesome one for the driver. Throughout, he ensured he maintained his responsibility of driving them back home. “He got us home safely! We love our new friend, Vincent,” the text read. The woman even suggested fixing up a meeting between Vincent and any “single Tia” who might be interested.

“He said he’ll pick us up again anytime and we promised him we’ll meet again soon!” the woman added. “When your Lyft driver becomes your friend on New Year’s Eve,” the caption of her post read. The woman also revealed in a comment that she had plans for dinner with Vincent along with her friends so he could get to know more people and enjoy time with the community. Many people were grateful for the women who took note of the driver’s grief and went above and beyond to put a smile on his face. Others sang praises of Vincent for being cheerful and adorable, even in the face of sorrow, while maintaining his responsibility.
