Grieving son's heartbreaking letter to late mother about how she impacted his life has moved people to tears

For some people, their parents occupy a big part of their hearts and leave great impact on their lives. When a son (u/Hawthorn57 on Reddit), unfortunately, lost his mum, he wanted the world to know the mark she left on him. He penned a heartfelt letter thanking his late mother for her love and sacrifice. This bittersweet letter is a culmination of the joys and profoundness the man’s mum gave to her family and is a tear-jerker. “For mom," the son began the letter before mentioning how grateful and proud he was of her for achieving so much in her personal and professional life.

“I can only hope to make even half the impact that you did. I’m beyond grateful to be your son,” the post read. The man recalled how his own children have been impacted by the warmth she had to share as a “Nana.” “I’m so glad you could meet my children and love them as fiercely as you loved me. Jamila and Zayden (the kids) love their Nana so deeply, and I see your light shining in them every day,” he wrote. The son poignantly noted that he was happy to “be left in good hands” of his wife by his mother. Taking a trip down memory lane, the man gratefully noted all the things his late mother made painstaking efforts for. Right from swimming, riding a bike and “laughing even when things got tough,” the mum displayed courage and resilience and taught her child the same.

He added, “Thank you for showing me how to be strong, to be kind and to show compassion and empathy toward others.” Looking further into the recent years of his life, the man couldn’t help but point out how his mum stood by his side. “Thank you for always protecting me and accepting me for who I am. You taught me right from wrong, stood by me when I needed you most, and were my shoulder to lean on,” he said. As a “guiding light,” the mom ensured she stuck by her son through dark and light and it is one of the most impactful and crucial memories the man treasures. He was sure to note that right from crawling to achieving his dreams, his mom was a backbone and he was “endlessly grateful.”

Towards the end of his heartbreaking letter, the man recalled the last days with his mum. “I’ll never forget our final moments together. I stayed up late by your side, watching over you. I rested my head beside you, and you looked at me with that gentle warmth I’ll never forget." He added, "You asked if I wanted to lay my head on your shoulder and I laid there, holding your hand until you fell back asleep. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect goodbye." Sharing a picture of his mum, the man remarked, “I am going to miss you every day.”
