He used AI to write his wedding vows. When his fiancée found out, she made a decision he’ll never forget
Heartfelt feelings might matter a lot even if they are not put in beautiful words. One woman felt strongly about this after she noticed that her fiancé had used AI to write their wedding vows. The fiancé recounted that she had immediately understood that the vows had been written using ChatGPT. The woman asked him to say something on his own after recognizing what was going on. When the man failed to do so, she made a bold decision in that very moment, according to a Reddit post, where he goes by u/ThrowRA-Badvows.
"I recently had a wedding with my partner. We've had a stable and happy relationship so far and I love her more than anything in the world," the 34-year-old began. "The problem arose when it came to writing vows. Don't get me wrong, I love many things about my partner, but I couldn't figure out how to put them into tangible vows. I decided to use ChatGPT so I could have something well-written and expressive to share at the ceremony." Things started to go wrong after that. The man pointed out that his partner had always been "confrontational and no-nonsense." She would immediately address anything that bothered her. The woman had also expressed her "disdain for AI" before the wedding.
"I don't know how, but she immediately recognized that the vows were AI. After I had finished, she had this angry look and whispered to me, 'Did you use f***ing AI to write that?'" The man was shocked to see that his fianceé had noticed his use of ChatGPT and was confronting him in front of their wedding party. "She then said that I either speak from the heart or she walks out." He couldn't say anything at that moment. So the woman walked away just as she had "promised" earlier. Their friends and family were quite confused at the action, as they couldn't quite catch what had transpired between the couple. "She's been ghosting me these past few days, which is atypical for her and is honestly giving me panic attacks."
"Most people agree that calling off a marriage because of AI vows was an overreaction and that maybe it was a sign that our relationship would have issues." However, many of the man's female friends pointed out that they would have done the same if they were in the bride's place. He felt "hurt" because he needed AI's help to make the day more special. "Is it worth fixing?" he asked the internet. Many people in the comments section pointed out how and why the woman's reaction was valid. u/Pilootus wrote, "Expressive and AI don't go together. She was able to figure out it was AI because AI doesn't have the same tone as you. You outsourced how much you care about your partner to a machine and you're upset she didn't like the idea."
u/namwoohyun commented, "Someone tried to make ChatGPT flirt with me in essay form for fun and gave details about me for the AI to work on, but it was still very unnatural sounding. I cannot imagine how soulless the generated wedding vow is."
