Most married couples dread each other's bathroom habits, which is why sharing a restroom is often something they avoid. A Reddit user's (u/hermes_with_a_miller)  husband felt the same way until she was diagnosed with an illness that left her wheelchair-bound. Eighteen months ago, the woman developed a limp on her left side, which was later diagnosed as ALS. On Monday, May 18, 2026, the storyteller shared details about her life post-diagnosis on Reddit, revealing her unusual wish for him that has now broken everyone's hearts.

"My decline seems to be accelerating, and my life expectancy is short," she noted. However, her husband, who had once been squeamish about sharing a bathroom, immediately stepped up to help her clean up and get dressed. From cooking to cleaning while managing his career, her husband had been a hands-on partner throughout her journey. However, she wished for him to find a "beautiful and kind" partner after her passing, someone he could continue living the life they had always dreamed of.

Despite undergoing multiple lumbar fusion surgeries, doctors informed her that her spinal nerve compression had worsened, leaving her wheelchair-bound. Even after treatments, when her health kept deteriorating, one neurologist confirmed she had ALS. The woman had always loved the life she was blessed with. She was married to an amazing man, and together they built a beautiful life. But because of her condition, she wishes for her husband to find someone with whom he could spend the rest of his life. "I want him to have the beautiful and adventure-filled life we planned, even if I don't get to share it with him. He deserves nothing less," she noted.

She also acknowledged that despite her worsening health condition, her husband never complained once and had always made her feel loved. Sharing the heartbreaking story with fellow Reddit users, she also posted a photograph of the dinner he had prepared for them: Caesar salad and tortellini with sliced Italian sausage and marinara sauce.  Although her wish caught everyone off guard, her intention for her husband to move on and find companionship left fellow Reddit users emotional. "I knew he was a great man. I knew he was strong and loving. Now, I know he is a far better husband than I deserve," she revealed.

I'm sending you both so much love. You seem like an amazing person!"
