Losing a parent is one of the deepest heartbreaks and it is something that is hard to move on from. It was especially difficult for a high school quarterback who lost his beloved mom and his biggest supporter after a 14-year-long battle with breast cancer. The grief was becoming impossible to cope with as Alex Brown, then 18 years old, was supposed to be a part of a play-off game just a day later. However, no one had expected him to show up for the game back in 2021 and put up a wonderful performance in honor of his late mom, per Barstool Sports.

Brown, from Red Bank Catholic School, was really attached to his mom, the person who was always the most excited for his games. So when he lost her, he still decided to show up for the game. "There was never a doubt in my mind that I was playing. That's how she wanted it. I talked to my dad and I said, 'I want to play for mom and make a special memory,' and that's what happened," Brown recounted. After the game, his father, Ray, was glad that he had agreed to let his son play. Brown scored eight touchdowns to honor his mom and led his team to victory. "I'm not super religious, but I am spiritual. And I truly believe this whole game was scripted before it happened," Ray remarked.

It also happened to be Brown's 18th birthday on the day of the game, per the outlet. "If she saw a game like that and I could talk to her now, I know that I made her as proud as possible and she would be screaming her head off, hugging me, kissing me, telling me how much she loves me and how proud she was of me, she would get very teary-eyed." Brown, who goes by @AlexRayBrown2 on X, shared an old picture with his mom and expressed his grief over her demise. The caption read, "Today I lost my best friend, my teacher and my mother. My mom had been battling breast cancer that had spread throughout her body for 14 years; she was never supposed to make it this long, but through love and her insane strength, she fought. I love you, mama. Rest in peace."

In another post, Brown shared a clip from the game and dedicated his performance to his late mom. "Yesterday I lost my amazing mother. Today I scored 8 touchdowns. Thank you for watching over me, mama." People expressed their grief over Brown's loss and congratulated him for his victory in the comments section of the post. @Ja_TysMom wrote, "I’m truly sorry for your loss…You never lost her, completely…she will always, always be with you! Little reminders everywhere. The bond between a momma and her son(s) will never be broken. Even in death."

@GagePadula commented, "Losing your mother is an awful thing as a teenager. I don’t know who you are, but keep your head held high and I hope you accomplish incredible things, my man!" @TheGangGreen34 remarked, "Alex, you showed an amazing amount of courage and resilience playing in that game and then being responsible for 8 touchdowns! You, no doubt, made your mother proud. It sounds like you have a bright future ahead, so keep working hard and become a living testament to your mom."
