Hospital sent pregnant woman home twice, telling her to return when contractions were closer — she never made it back
A baby's arrival can happen in ways families never expect, even when parents have planned carefully. Michelle Cisneros and Darren Campbell faced a similar situation while preparing to welcome their daughter. As reported by CBS News on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the mom was in intense pain and could feel it was time for delivery. On Friday, July 24, 2026, she and her husband made their way to a Newport Beach hospital for help, according to PEOPLE. The couple said they were asked to return home and wait until the contractions were closer together. However, their baby arrived in an unexpected place before they could reach home.
Michelle explained that she had been advised to come back when her contractions were closer together. She said, "We literally made it downstairs, and they were 3 minutes apart." Still, they were requested to drive home. The couple soon realized the situation was moving quickly. On the way back, the mom knew it was time. When her partner checked, he could see the baby's head. Darren stopped at a Jack in the Box parking lot and called for emergency help. First responders arrived and assisted the woman as she delivered baby Valentina Isla Campbell safely inside the passenger seat of their car. The newborn arrived 15 days earlier than expected. Michelle said hearing her daughter's first cry brought her a sense of relief after the stressful moment.
Staying calm during unexpected situations can help people handle difficult moments better. The parents later expressed they were grateful that both Michelle and the baby were healthy, although they wondered if the situation could have been handled differently. The mother recalled that she was in severe pain before leaving the hospital, and that itself should have been an indicator. Darren said the unusual birth was an experience he would never forget, explaining, "You can't prepare for delivering your child in the passenger seat of your car." The Jack in the Box location also contacted the family and offered a care package after learning about Valentina’s arrival.
Not every delivery happens inside a hospital. In another incident, a pregnant woman was on a family camping trip when she suddenly felt severe pain and believed it was caused by some bad nachos that she had eaten. However, she soon figured out the situation was much more serious. While being driven to the hospital, she realized the pain was actually due to her contractions. As her partner's grandma drove, she gave birth to her twin boys inside the moving car. She later recalled, "I really thought nothing of it," before everything happened so quickly. After the delivery, she shocked everyone, including her husband and sister, by calling them and showing them the twins instead of her pregnant belly. She and her babies were later taken to the nearest medical center.
