Housekeeper raising 3 kids alone was asked to clean a 4-bedroom home — hours later, she became its owner
Working-class people aspire to have their necessities met and one of them is having a home to call their own. According to Daily Mail, a single mother to three kids from Cleveland, Ohio, was making her living as a housekeeper back in 2014 until a call about a service transformed her altogether. The mom, Cara Simmons, responded to her usual duty, where she was needed to tidy up a four-bedroom property one day. Little did she know that she would end up becoming the owner of the house. An organization filming their show named "Prank It Forward" chose the mom to receive a life-changing surprise.
Cleveland.com detailed what went behind the whole process of making the hardworking single mom a deserving homeowner. That fateful day, Simmons' employer Maid Brite sent her to help a faux client who was planning a party at their property. Her boss from Maid Brite, Mary Jo Dean, was contacted by DEFY Media, the producer of the wholesome "prank" program and named some of her employees as deserving candidates to become the "victim." Dean collected information from her employers in the guise of working on a Facebook page for the company. 3 single moms were shortlisted to receive the gift through a hearty prank.
The official YouTube channel of Daily Mail reshared the footage of the prank, which was originally filmed by the organization. They told Simmons that they were recording for a company video. As Simmons arrived at the property, she was welcomed by the fake client who told her that the house was already clean but they had tons of preparations left to do. She took Simmons to the kitchen and introduced her to an executive chef. Simmons was stunned when she was asked to taste some gourmet meals prepared by the chef. Simmons sat down at the dining table and she was offered a spread of imported lobster meat, ravioli, truffles and a total of 6 courses in total.
The crew of "Prank It Forward" kept an eye on Simmons from a hidden spot fitted with cameras and screens with smiles on their faces. After the feast, Simmons responded to the doorbell ringing and two men walked in, claiming they needed to test some massage stations for the guests of the fake party at the home. Simmons was once again made comfortable as the employees provided a relaxing massage session for her. "I feel like it's my birthday," Simmons quipped but looked a bit confused. Then the fake client took Simmons to a room, showing her designer dresses, shoes and accessories that she was planning to get rid of. She made Simmons try them out and all of those strangely fit the mom.
Simmons was made to answer the door once again and a man with some boxes showed up. The fake client told Simmons to unpack the boxes while the delivery man was getting other packages from a movers and packers truck. That was when Simmons started recognizing her own belongings in the boxes. She asked the mover where he got those boxes from. "These items are for the woman who lives here in this house. Miss. Simmons," the man replied. The mom was trying to process what was happening when the fake client who was a part of the elaborate prank, showed up to claim that Miss. Cara Simmons was the name of her boss who lived there.
Simmons interrupted them by mentioning her real name. "So this must be your house, Cara Simmons. You are the resident of this house," the mover, who was actually host Greg Benson of the show, broke the big news to Simmons. The mom was left baffled and overwhelmed. Benson explained the whole situation to Simmons. He brought forward Simmons' sister Glori Nicholson and her kids, revealing how they were involved in the prank to provide Simmons with a day off too. However, none of Simmons' family knew that the house was actually theirs to keep. As Simmons and her family got emotional and exchanged hugs, Benson told them that Simmons and Nicholson would also receive an all-expense paid trip to Mexico and that was like a cherry on top of the huge surprise.
