Human behavioral researcher says the way you butter bread reveals unique hidden 'layers of your personality'
Body language is unique to individuals. Many people behave or react to vivid situations differently. Something as simple as saying hello to someone or walking upstairs can be done in slight ways by two people. Body language is closely connected with personality and can help understand a person's nature. Human behavioral researcher Darren Stanton shared that even the way an individual butters their bread can reveal a lot about them, as per New York Post. As a body language expert, he shared nine different ways people might butter their bread and how each is associated with a unique personality trait.
Stanton insightfully revealed, “In the seemingly mundane act of putting a spread on toast, layers of our personality are unveiled. Some spread with precision, others with spontaneity — how we spread mirrors our resilience, patience and attention to detail.”
1. Gliders
The term refers to people who simply swatch the slab of butter evenly on their piece of bread. A very simple, effortless and quick method. As the name suggests, these personalities are more on the calm and relaxed side. They slide through life unbothered and obstacles are not something to fret about for them. These people could also be great listeners as they are composed in their own lives and don’t have many problems.
2. Total coverage
This method has people evenly spreading butter cautiously so as to not miss even the edges. A well-buttered bread, if you will, is the goal. The traits that these people display include precision, being organized and having a good command or control over things. They prefer having things in their place and being prepared for whatever follows.
3. Clumper
People who add clumps of butter unevenly to their bread only care about the fact that their bread has some butter on it. With chaotically placed clumps, the bread will have abrupt bits of butter here and there and none in certain portions. Such people are often carefree, and creative and don’t find it necessary to have everything down to the T. They go all out being themselves without much thought.
4. Crust-avoiders
Many people ensure that the butter is applied within the crust of the bread as if their life depended on it. These people are more neat and tidy and have more of a composed and perfectionist personality. Getting things done and done right is a major imperative for them.
5. Double-siders
People who smother their bread with butter on both sides usually enjoy living to the fullest. They go all out in life and can be described as carefree, extravagant and adventurous. They usually trust their instincts and take chances.
6. Tear and spread
The people who precisely tear their bread apart and then spread are ones you wouldn't want to mess with. They know what they want and will work towards acquiring the same. Like tearing bread, they may break things down to better understand and work this out.
7. Curler
Anyone using extraordinary appliances to shape and spread their butter comes under this category. Such individuals have skills different from the crowd and will often take irregular methods to achieve what they want. They pick a way that pleases them, as bizarre or confusing as it may seem and put in the effort to achieve their desired result.
8. Barely there
People using the least amount of butter and prioritizing the bread more are associated with this group. They often believe in getting out there and don’t wish to waste time on mundane tasks. Defined as “go-getters,” they are quick and spontaneous. Another kind of personality connected with this group could be those who are health-conscious and are looking out for themselves.
9. Do what you want with your spread
These are the people who go all out and don’t care how and where the butter is spread as long as it’s generously spread on the entire toast. Their traits have more to do with being happy, carefree, as well as, up and at life. They’re likely to give their 100% in everything they do and aspire to be the best. In the expert's words, “The next time you spread your toast, remember, you could be revealing more about your personality than you might think.”
