Landlord kept calling cops on tenants over petty issues — so they moved out and left him with months of chaos
Living peacefully often depends on having clear boundaries and mutual respect. One tenant and Reddit user recently shared a story about a landlord whose constant complaints and repeated calls to police made life difficult for his renters. After putting up with his behavior for a long time, the family eventually moved away, but their departure did not mark the end of the dispute. The story was later shared by u/Jazzlike_Advisor_633 on Friday, June 5, 2026. The person explained that despite trying to remain cooperative, the homeowner's actions created tension. So in response, they chose to wreak havoc after they left.
The problems began even on the very first day they moved in. The landlord reportedly entered their home through the back door without notice after seeing a delivery person leave. He placed a gun on the counter and questioned the visit, which left the family shaken. They also said he disliked their choices and kept trying to control small parts of their daily life, from garden care to guest visits and even routine household habits. After they eventually moved out, they decided to respond in a way that would disrupt his daily life for months, using repeated online posts and fake listings linked to his address. They made false fancy claims on the ads, and added his details. "We would also say we worked odd hours, so come after 10 pm and knock really loud because I was hard of hearing," the former renter noted. Undoubtedly, the homeowner had to encounter a lot of unwanted guests.
The person also shared how things escalated further when a power outage forced the renters to use a generator for several days during a hot summer period. The landlord complained repeatedly about the noise and contacted the police more than once. Officers who visited the property found little issue with the sound. Eventually, authorities returned with a senior officer who inspected the setup and questioned the man about his complaints directly. Soon after, the calls stopped for a while. They later moved out, but even then, he continued to contact and harass them, which prompted them to find justice through the sneaky fake ads.
Unfortunately, another person had to deal with a tough landlord in his own way. The tenant lived in an apartment where problems were often ignored, making daily life stressful. Even basic repairs like heating during winter were left pending for weeks. The homeowner would sometimes respond, he “always sounded sympathetic and promised action, but very little ever came of it,” leaving the renter frustrated and planning to move out after repeated delays. Before leaving, he quietly decided to make a small change. He moved furniture slightly closer together so the rooms looked tighter than they were. “The apartment wasn't very large to begin with, but now it looked absolutely cramped and gave the impression that you would have a hard time moving around in there.”
