Lyft driver called mom at 3 am and asked her to 'bring a blanket' — it helped the duo rescue a 2-year-old girl

The driver was stunned to see the girl late at night and acted swiftly to provide timely help and comfort.

A Lyft driver, Ashton Mazyck, was driving on the streets at 3 am after dropping off a passenger when he spotted a 2-year-old wandering alone, per CBS News. Stunned at the sight, he knew he had to intervene before something untoward happened. He had no idea who the child was, where she came from or how she got there, but he was prepared to help her and get her to safety.

"When I first saw her, it was this precious little girl. She looked at me, tears in her eyes and I just felt all sorts of emotions," the driver recalled. His instant thought was, “I had to make sure she was safe. I wanted her to feel safe." He picked her up and swaddled her, per CBS Boston. The man thought of calling the police as he had no idea what the situation was, but before that, he paid heed to the child’s urgent needs. The girl must have been scared, freezing and confused and before he could make it even more strange by involving cops, he called up his mum, Vida. "Ashton is like, 'Mom, come quickly. Bring a blanket. I found a little child standing outside,’” she recalled.

Receiving this unusual request at 3 am, Vida immediately intervened. The duo got the 2-year-old to their home and began to comfort her and warm her up. Having been in the biting cold for an unknown amount of time, her condition was worrisome. "Her feet were just encrusted with ice and snow and salt," Vida said. After assisting the girl, they called the police and asked them to take over. The police first took the girl to the hospital and got her checked. On investigation, it was revealed that the girl was being looked after by her grandmother at the time, as her mother was at work on a night shift.

It is suspected that the toddler left the house and wandered while the grandmother was asleep. According to Parents, toddlers wandering around is quite normal. This is because they are curious about exploring their freedom. Because they have different sleep patterns, they might get out of bed and wander. The 2-year-old, in this case, was unaware of the dangers she brought upon herself by strolling alone that night. Luckily, the driver was a kind-hearted one who acted immediately to ensure she was safe and home as soon as possible.

After all the procedures at the hospital were done, the girl was soon reunited with her mum. Ashton and his mom are grateful that the girl is okay and that they were able to spot her and get her help in due time. With her being barefoot and alone out there, there are endless untoward incidents that could have befallen her. This example of the impact of kindness is sure to inspire many.
