Man in his late 30s complimented a woman at the gym — but his question about her age made it clear it wasn’t harmless

He first told her she looked strong and 'jacked,' but then his behavior changed in a way she did not expect.

Gyms are shared spaces where people cross paths with strangers, and not every interaction ends on a positive note. That was what happened when a woman named Reese shared her experience with a man she met during her workout. The story, posted on March 16, 2026, under the handle @relishwithreese, described how a casual compliment slowly shifted into something that made her uneasy. Reese explained that she was focused on her routine when a man in his mid to late thirties approached her and started speaking to her. Initially, he seemed friendly and even encouraging, but the conversation did not stay that way for long.

He first told her she looked strong and “jacked,” but then his behavior changed in a way she did not expect. He started asking personal questions and even tried to get her contact information. When she politely told him she was in a relationship and did not want to share her details, the tone of the conversation shifted. He said, “Oh, by the way, how old are you, because you look really young,” adding that she looked like she could be in high school, which made her uncomfortable.

Reese later explained that what started as a normal gym interaction quickly turned into something inappropriate. She pointed out that if someone believes another person looks like a minor, then asking for their number is already wrong. She further added in the video, “Telling a woman she looks like a teenager is not the compliment you think it is.” Her reaction reflected how quickly discomfort can grow when boundaries are ignored, even in public spaces meant for fitness and focus. She also added that situations like this show why people should be careful about how they approach others.

The incident drew attention from other internet users, who shared their experiences and opinions in the comments section. @starwrittenstreams wrote, "No, that's insane he would say that!" @mmomo.g remarked, "This guy I went out with recently said I looked 17 (I’m 30), I almost threw up." @morokokoko expressed, "The moment you mentioned you were in a relationship, he should’ve stopped. I wonder why he kept pushing." The incident illustrates how an attempt at flattery can end up exposing attitudes or behaviors that others find unsettling.

Not every question or comment is appropriate when meeting someone for the first time, no matter how harmless it may seem. In another story, a woman named Sasha Polaris shared that she was sitting alone when a man came over and started a short, casual chat that seemed normal at first. He spoke briefly, then quickly asked for her contact details before walking away. Soon after, he messaged her with an unexpected invite to meet at his place for a pool day, even though they barely knew each other.

She replied with confusion, saying, “Really?” as she tried to understand his thinking. The man then admitted the attempt had not worked before and mentioned personal details that made the exchange more awkward. She ended the conversation soon after, calling the situation “crazy,” and said such experiences had made her more careful about meeting new people in everyday life.
