Man picked up his Hinge date in his new car for their first meeting — then came a parking-lot twist that made him call police
First dates can already feel uncertain, especially when two strangers are meeting for the first time. For content creator Max Moser, the excitement was even higher because he had recently bought a new car and planned to use it to pick up a woman he met on Hinge. He expected a fun evening and hoped the date could lead to something more. Instead, the night took a turn he could never have planned for. Moser later shared the unusual experience in a TikTok post on September 12, 2026, through his account @.mosermade, explaining how a simple dinner ended with him having to contact the police.
Moser said the woman wanted him to pick her up, so he drove to the address she sent before taking her to a restaurant. While parking, she noticed his keys and joked around with them. She eventually got into the driver's seat, started the car, and drove away with it while Moser stood there in disbelief. At first, he thought the whole thing was an odd joke and expected her to return. But after several minutes passed, he realized she was actually gone.
He then remembered his car had a tracking and security system, but he had not finished setting it up. With no way to track the vehicle through the system, Moser called the police and explained what had happened. "They started laughing," he recalled as he explained the situation to the officers. Dating can come with risks that are easy to overlook when someone appears trustworthy. The police later located his car, which the woman had apparently driven around before leaving it somewhere. They also asked the content creator for her Hinge profile because they were looking into another person who matched her description. He was told she may have been targeting men through the dating app.
Moser said he did not know exactly why she took the vehicle, but he suspected she may have been looking for money left inside. His car had nothing valuable in it, which could have been why she abandoned it. The experience also made him question whether dating apps were helping him find the relationship he wanted. He told his sister about what happened, and she encouraged him not to give up. Taking his sister's advice, he continued and eventually matched with a decent woman whom he went on several dates with.
Modern dating apps can create good opportunities to meet potential romantic interests, but not every experience ends on a good note.
