Man was stood up 20 minutes into second-date reservation with a single text — her demands on a follow-up video call made the no-show even more bizarre
There should be a boundary to the expectations people have while dating. While certain requirements are understandable, expecting too much can cause disappointment. A man who goes by u/rawesome99 shared a post on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, explaining how his date took a bizarre turn after their first meeting. Everything went well the first time, and so they planned a second date. However, on the day of the date, the woman failed to show up and later made demands over a video call that left him speechless.
He arrived on time and waited for 20 minutes before the 36-year-old messaged him, saying she wouldn’t be coming, and added that something had been bothering her since their first meeting. Later, she wanted to give “feedback” over a video call. She first told him he should have offered to drop her off at home after their first date. Secondly, she mentioned that he should have opened the door of the Uber for her, and she was disappointed that he hadn't. Then came even more absurd complaints. “When she said she was ‘figuring out how to get there’ for date two, that was a hint for me to offer a ride. I didn't get the hint,” the man revealed. Lastly, she felt that he wasn’t pursuing her enough because he didn't text daily or offer flowers.

To the man, all these factors came as a surprise. He thought he had been doing the best he could for the woman. He even paid attention to her preference and changed his initial plan of a museum and dinner to a simple long dinner date instead. He also confirmed the date, arrived on time, and so on. However, learning that these gestures weren’t enough felt shocking.
The woman was willing to meet again if he was open to taking the feedback, but he was left wondering whether her expectations were a little unreasonable for a first or second date. The internet users assured him that he was not in the wrong, and the woman’s demands were unrealistic. u/AdventurousRatio818 wrote, “That's not dating, that's a job interview with a chore list attached to it.” u/adultishiguess added, “She's already dating a made-up boyfriend that doesn't exist; she doesn't have any interest in you.” u/imscared5747 assured, “Bullet dodged. Never date someone who tests you like this.”

Expectations from a potential partner are fair if there’s some reasoning behind them or if a similar standard comes from the other person. However, people are too busy focusing on their deal-breakers without first looking at themselves. In another instance, a man learned that his date preferred being celibate and was not ready for intimacy yet. Her boundary seemed valid even though she was 42 years old, until she revealed she had already been in two failed relationships and had two adult children. The man honestly said that her demands didn’t feel “realistic given what she was bringing to the table.” He instantly realized that they wouldn't be compatible and decided to ask for separate checks after the meeting.
