Man with PhD mocked date for not finishing college — minutes later, one alligator question made his degree look useless
While some regard college degrees as proof of their knowledge, they mean little to nothing when a person displays arrogance and a lack of common sense. A Threads user who goes by @gingergxxq went on a date with a man who held a PhD, who mocked her for not being able to complete college due to some neurological disorders. A few minutes later, one question he asked about alligators in upstate New York exposed his knowledge and credibility. Sharing the hilarious story with Threads users on Monday, May 25, 2026, the woman revealed how her date embarrassed himself just moments after boasting.
The woman was annoyed when her date kept poking fun at her for not being able to complete college due to dyslexia and other issues. She noted that despite telling him that she was well-read and pursued knowledge outside of school, he still considered himself superior. Five minutes later, while the duo was walking through a trail in upstate New York, the man pointed at some tall, wetland grass and asked if there were any alligators. She delivered the perfect comeback. "I looked him dead in the face and said, 'No, they can’t sustain themselves in long winters like ours. Also, they don't migrate. How’s that PhD working out for you?'" she remarked. He was left embarrassed and speechless. They never spoke with each other again.
The response felt even more satisfying since the PhD holder claimed that they'd run out of topics to talk about, assuming she was not as smart as him. However, one question he asked exposed how intelligent he really was. Users chimed in with their perspectives. @_ruby_is_qt_ wrote, "I also have a PhD, and I can assure you that the only thing he can talk about more than anyone else is the one extremely specific thing his PhD is on." @aftermathceramics shared, "I went on a date, and he told me I needed to quit my job bartending if I wanted a future with him. I 'quit' the date instead." @jmitchrides remarked, "I have a master's degree. My wife? A lowly bachelor's degree. When I tell you that woman is twice as smart as me, I'm being generous to myself."
The date's entitled behavior reminds us of Jezabel's encounter when her potential date mocked another woman for her career choice as a content creator. When she matched with him on Hinge, he instantly began criticizing women for petty things, including their choice of jobs. However, when she asked him what he did, he told her that he worked as a bodyguard. That's when she called him out for berating women for their choices, while picking an unstable career himself.
