Manager got caught skimming hours from an employee’s schedule and demanded the proof be deleted—but the worker stayed one step ahead
Loyalty and hard work deserve recognition and fair pay, but when bosses take advantage of these values, employees don’t sit quietly. A Reddit user who goes by u/Confident_Oil788 shared a post on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, revealing how their branch manager at a travel agency was deliberately logging fewer hours than workers had put in to reduce their pay. When the person learned of this, they began taking screenshots of their entries, only for the superior to demand that they delete them since it was “confidential information.” They responded with a classic move.
The manager had been tampering with her employees’ working hours for around 18 months. The worker only realized this when they sat down to check why their pay was so low despite putting in heavy hours at work. To counter it, they began taking screenshots of the schedule, so every clock-in and clock-out was recorded. When the woman learned there was proof of her unethical behavior, she demanded they delete the images, stating they contained “confidential data.” They refused, saying the information only included their personal shift times. The manager contacted the head office, citing a “breach of policy,” and an investigation was launched. That same day, the employee sent an email to the latter with all the evidence of her malpractice.
The head office found the manager’s complaint about screenshots of shifts bizarre to begin with, but never said so outright. When they received the email, they immediately arranged for a meeting with the employee. While the outcome has yet to unfold, the woman’s actions are likely to be brought to light. It’s only fair, considering she had practically deprived her team of the pay they had earned. “She was rounding hours down, marking lunch breaks longer than they were, and when someone called in sick, she would mark the day unpaid instead of using our sick entitlement,” the post revealed.
According to UKG, payroll system is a crucial aspect of running an efficient workplace. Richard Limpkin, General Manager of Global Payroll Solutions, explained, “Employee pay is one of the most powerful levers multi-national organizations have to strengthen their financial health, elevate the employee experience, and operate with confidence on a global scale.” Yet, many workers still struggle to receive the wages they have earned after putting in strenuous hours. As per data from the National Employment Law Project, 1 in 4 temporary workers reported experiencing wage theft, either through reduced pay or failure to receive overtime compensation.
In this case, the manager was exploiting her employees. They can hope for justice only because one person realized something was wrong, decided to take action, and stood their ground. That’s what commenters appreciated. u/INeverLovedYouAnyway wrote, “Nice job documenting and standing up for yourself.” u/PartyFoulWHH suggested, “Need an update. She’s going to get fired.” u/arosooetics28 remarked, “I hope she gets what's coming to her! Good for you! Always keep receipts!”
