Mom braced for the worst when teens crashed autistic son's birthday in park — but their response just 'shocked' her

Kids can surprise people with their understanding and kindness at times. A 13-year-old, Gavin Mabes, showed that when he arrived at a park with his friends. A little boy was celebrating his birthday with his mother at the same time. There was nobody at the park apart from the boy, Carter Bruynell, who had turned 5 years old that day and his mom. Carter is autistic and his mom knew that such a big crowd of people would overwhelm him. She was about to leave with him when the kids surprised her, per CBS Evening News.

"They just shocked me. It was unlike any experience I think I've ever had," Kristin, Carter's mom, expressed. Gavin came into the park and led all his friends as they formed a special friendship with Carter. "Gavin's just going around with them and making him feel special." The boy could be seen helping Carter up after he fell from a skateboard. The other kids followed him and all of them sang "Happy Birthday" for the boy. "That just really blew me away. Because you just want to see the kindness in the world," Kristin admitted. "I wanted Carter to have a good birthday." The kids sang as Carter did his own thing with a big smile.

The police also came into the picture and an officer announced that they were going to throw a pizza party for the kids. Gavin and his friends continued to play with Carter even after that day. "We are happy, he made us all happy," a girl said about Carter. "That was so cool, you want to race?" Gavin asked Carter in a clip. The little boy gave the teen a big hug as they were about to part ways. Kristin and Gavin's mom, Danette, also got a chance to meet each other. Danette was proud of what her son did for the little boy. "I was just so proud of him." People shared their thoughts on the wholesome interaction in the comments section of the video.

That little boy must’ve felt so loved when he had all those kids singing to him. What great role models. Little ones always look to older children for a bit of guidance. I’m sure when he’s their age, he’ll be going out of his way to give out random acts of kindness." @bettemimi4591 remarked, "Give those parents a damn medal. That shows some amazing parenting. That's how I was raised. And the happiness and joy they brought to that beautiful little boy. God bless all involved..."
@crazeenydriver shared, "These students are the products of good parenting, most likely 'old school' style parenting like we had. Great work and a big shout out to all the parents and the students in this story." @countrylover3466 expressed, "This made my heart melt. I'm a junior in high school and I will admit, I used to be one of the people in the pack that followed suit, but we were always the ones who were ignored. Seeing this inspired me to be a better person and lead that pack of friends to do goodness in the world. God bless these kids, they are truly amazing."
