Mom came to retrieve her teen’s phone after he and two friends pulled a $300 dine-and-dash — her excuse for his behavior left restaurant staff stunned
Parents are expected to reprimand and correct their children when someone complains about an obvious mistake they intentionally made. Unfortunately, one waitress received a disappointing reaction from a mom. Samantha, who goes by @misssamanthab on TikTok, shared the encounter on October 18, 2026. It was later reported by BroBible on October 21, 2026. Three teen boys came to the diner and ordered items worth $300 and fled without paying. Luckily, one of them left their phone behind, and the mom had to come collect it. When the staff explained what had happened, she had an unexpected reply.
The group arrived at the diner, ordered items, and ate as usual. They then asked the server for boxes to-go along with the check. She placed the two on the table and walked away to give them room to pay. When she returned, they were gone, and there was no money on the table. Instead, she found a phone that belonged to one of the boys. She handed it over to her manager and told them to keep an eye out for anyone who walked in to claim it. A woman came in sometime later, identifying herself as the mom and asking for the device. The staff told her that her son had dine-and-dashed, leaving a tab of $300. She simply said, “They’re just teenagers, they’re having fun, experimenting with the rules, and pushing boundaries.”

When she walked in, the manager first clarified if she was related to the diners at the same table. Later, she explained her son was freaked out and didn’t want to collect the phone himself. The staff explained to her that this wasn’t just fun but was “stealing.” Instead of understanding the situation, she got riled up and turned the blame on them. According to her, the fact that they wouldn’t return the phone until she paid was stealing. She threatened to call the cops, but eventually ended up paying the tab. Sharing a comment with the outlet, the waitress noted, “Raise your children better and don’t condone bad behavior. They’re eventually going to enter the real world and be in for a rude awakening.”

It’s horrifying to imagine that people want to get away without paying after enjoying a meal at a restaurant. Paying for products and services is basic, but people go to great lengths to save those few dollars, and it’s shameful and entitled behavior. In another instance, a diner had no complaints about his steak until the bill arrived. It was only then that he claimed that it was tough and overcooked, and he could hardly enjoy it. The manager intervened and explained that he could offer free dessert to manage the situation from their end, but taking the item off the bill was not an option since the customer had eaten most of it. He huffed about it and eventually paid up, but when it was time to leave, he asked the waitress to pack the remaining two bites to go. His last move proved he was only looking to get away without paying.
