Old photos can reveal surprising facts about people and events. One woman was stunned when she saw her great-grandmother's photo and compared it with her toddler daughter's picture. There were uncanny similarities that the woman was able to identify very easily the moment she compared the two images. The Australian mom, Rachel Petersen, who goes by @racheltuesday on TikTok, shared the two photos. The internet agreed that her daughter, Nyah, looked exactly like Petersen's late great-grandmother. The photo post received over 1.8 million views on the platform.

The great-grandmother's photo as a little girl was in black and white. She was wearing a scarf and a frock. "This is my great-grandmother (She died when I was nine)." The text overlay of the photo read. In the second slide, there was a picture of her then three-year-old daughter, Nyah. "Which is weird because this is my daughter, Nyah." The two of them had many similarities, including the cowlick on their hairline. The girl was wearing a loose T-shirt over her outfit, which her mom found really funny, according to the caption. Nyah has a twin called Sunny, as reported by Newsweek on Saturday, December 27, 2025. The mom shared that the two of them look completely different from each other.

It all started when Petersen's grandmother, Linda March, visited her. March showed Petersen a photo of her mother, Hilary, after looking at Nyah. Both of them were instantly able to recognize the similar features between the two. The woman had fond memories of her great-grandmother and was happy to find such similarities in her daughter. "On Wednesdays, Memar would come over and have dinner at my family home, and we would play dominoes. Eventually, she came to live with my grandy. She used to love showing me her jewelry, [and] I was very lucky to inherit a few pieces when she passed away." The photos were from when the girl was three years old, and now she has turned seven, according to the outlet.

"It completely spun me out and still does. It's pretty incredible to think that 1.3 million people have seen my beautiful Memar and darling daughter, Nyah. Someone in the comment section merged the photos together. I still can't believe the resemblance!" the mom went on. People were impressed by the similar features between the two family members and shared their thoughts in the comments section of the post. One comment read, "To look like the woman you admire is the greatest gift life can give you."

For 20 years, I thought that it was a photo of me." @emilywr1992 commented, "Genetics are weird. I have had people tell me that I look like a mix of my maternal grandma and paternal grandpa. @midwestern_bobbit remarked, "This reminds me of my great-great-great-grandmother when she was young. While she and my mother don't look completely identical, I was still surprised by the similarities they shared with each other."
