Mom left her 1‑year‑old in the bath with his toddler brother to grab towels—seconds later she heard him say a phrase that sent her rushing back
Every parent has had experiences when split-second decisions make their hearts race. Beth Moore, a mother of two, shared a similar incident on Instagram. In a video, Moore, @bethgracemoore, shared that while bathing her three-year-old son and one-year-old daughter together, she realized she had forgotten the towel. She got up, leaving the kids inside the tub to get the towels. But what she heard next instantly made her panic. Her son announced, "I’m going to baptize her in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” The video, posted on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, has received over 45,800 views.
Moore said, “There is nothing that can prepare you for the heart attacks that you will experience while raising toddlers.” She explained that she was alone at home and realized mid-bath that she had forgotten to bring the towels. She left both the kids in the bathtub and immediately stepped away to the closet to get them. She explained, “Before you come after me, I know that you were never supposed to step away from young children in the bathtub. But at this point in time, I was home alone, I needed to walk the five feet for literally three seconds.”
Recalling the incident, she expressed that as soon as she reached the linen closet, she heard her son say something that shocked her. She dropped everything and went back to her kids right away. She was expecting the worst when her son said that he was going to baptize ‘her’, presumably his sister. “You can imagine my horror when I hear my three-year-old little boy say, ‘I’m going to baptize her’,” she said. However, when she reached the bathroom, what she saw was surprisingly calm.
“When I walk in, I find my three-year-old little boy submerging his doll in the tub, repeatedly baptizing her,” she said, adding that her daughter “is just sitting there and she’s just watching the whole thing happen.” She ended the video with a pinch of humor, saying, “So moral of the story is don’t forget the towels.” The moment, which she expected to be a disastrous one, ended in relief. Several parents resonated with Moore and shared similar close-call moments that come with parenting. “Mine got on the bed and fell down doing a flip, it was so scary! She was fine, but it happened in seconds!” commented @byandreahusic. Many found the incident extremely funny: “This is hilarious but also so sweet,” wrote @lauras.lifejoy. “Why couldn’t God have made children move slower, because my goodness, do they do those things so fast?” said @laura.hagerbaumer.
