Mom moved her 19-year-old son into a fraternity house after seeing it on video — seeing it in person was a whole different story
A parent may picture a college home as a place that is basic but comfortable, especially when the only glimpse comes through a screen. According to a recent report from PEOPLE, Will, a sophomore at the University of Delaware, was looking forward to sharing the house with his fraternity brothers. Massaro had never lived in such a setting herself, so she had no clear idea of what to expect. However, after watching the popular college series, "Off Campus," she created an image of college housing that included a neat kitchen and modern setup in her mind. To her surprise, the residence was nowhere close. The biggest shock came once the family reached the back of the property, where the condition of the space became impossible to ignore with all the mess. “There was random furniture and old couches piled up on the back porch and driveway,” she recounted.
Inside, Massaro found an unfinished kitchen without basic cabinets or counters, while the refrigerator had been placed in the hallway. "To put it nicely, it definitely wasn’t clean," the mom remarked. She later learned that the arrangement helped fit more students into the room and could be changed when parties were hosted. The woman eventually decided that changing the entire property was not her responsibility. Instead, she concentrated on Will's bedroom, which offered hope. The family cleaned the room, replaced the mattress, and created a more comfortable space for him. She said her "mom instincts definitely kicked in" during the process. Her main concern was making sure her son had a space that was clean, safe, and comfortable.
Moving to a new place can come with surprises. In another incident, a couple discovered a carefully stored wedding dress in the attic of their new home before their wedding. The bride-to-be was surprised by the find and admired the dress's long sleeves, detailed design, and long train. Her father had spotted the sealed box during an earlier visit to the property and later sent her a picture. She contacted the previous owners before opening it and hoped to include the dress in her wedding as her "something borrowed." "I just know whoever wore this dress looked amazing in it. The train is everything," she said. Sometimes, surprises can be amazing.
