Mom of terminally ill son has fitting response to abusive note on car for parking in disabled spot
Each person has their set of challenges as they go through various experiences in life. The least we can do is show kindness and thoughtfulness in our encounters and interactions. However, when people fail to exercise basic human decency, they need to be reprimanded. When a mom encountered a rude note from a stranger, she had an epic response to render. Emma Doherty revealed that she was saddened by a stranger’s note left on her car and responded to it via a Facebook post.
“To the person who put this on my car, which I had put my disabled badge on to show, I'm not angry at your pure ignorance, I'm upset with it,” she began writing. The mom mentioned in her post she had received a note on her car which was parked in a disabled spot. The note read, “You lazy conning b**ch. You did not have a disabled person with you! These spaces are reserved for people who need them!” The mom responded to the same by pointing out that she has a terminally ill son because of whom she has a disability badge. “How dare you ever accuse anyone of not needing a disabled badge without knowing. I wish you had the b**ls to say this to my face and I’d happily have said why I have a badge,” the mom said.
Dehorty added that people don’t have to “look disabled,” to carry the title. She went on to explain her son’s condition and revealed that he had been going through a lot. “I hope this gets shared and back to you and you will see my son is terminally ill. He's had over 15 operations 3 open hearts, 2 stomach, lung, and diaphragm, and countless artery stenting operations and spent half his life in intensive care. He's had 2 strokes and was paralyzed, brain damaged and has a spine and hip condition as well as a massive heart condition,” Doherty explained.
She added that her son had recently been discharged and due to the flow of events, she couldn't carry his wheelchair and just carried him. “But for your information, not everyone who holds a blue badge needs to have a wheelchair!” she exclaimed. The mom went on to explain that she had been through a lot of situations but what broke her above all was the note. “It's your pure ignorance towards others. I'm a single mum trying my best to hold it together for my son who's in and out of the hospital. Not all disabilities are visible,” she shared.
Doherty further explained that she is used to seeing people have the stereotypical idea that disabled people have to look a particular way. “Everyone needs to stop and think before acting. I hardly ever let anything upset me but this did. As for conning my son's disabled pass is not a con, he's seriously ill,” she wrote. The mom even mentioned that she shared a picture of her son to prove that even disabled people can look normal. People applauded the woman for calling out the person and for sharing her story. One Facebook user, Michelle Mcguire, wrote, “Some people have no morals.” Another user, Debra Wild, added, “Hate people like this. Pure ignorance. Don’t let it upset you, they are not worth it.”
