Mom pulled over and began having a seizure in the middle of the road—11-year-old’s one act saved her life

Having a medical emergency on the side of the road can be a scary experience. One mom found herself in such a situation in the middle of the highway. She was driving with her 11-year-old daughter when the woman, Jenna Lester, began having a seizure. Jenna immediately pulled over and asked her daughter, Krista, to call 911. The girl's response and help from first responders changed the outcome for the family that day, per KSAT 12. The mom was also proud of her daughter's swift action.

Jenna and Krista were driving on the Boerne Stage Road exit off Interstate 10 when the incident happened. The mom had a feeling that something was off when she started experiencing palpitations, tremors and other concerning symptoms. She took the car to a safe place and encouraged her daughter to call 911. The daughter was a little shaken at her mom's request, as she had never experienced such a thing before. "I started panicking at that point because that was a little weird, I’ve never had to call 911 before," Krista recounted. But because of the daughter's quick actions, the first responders could arrive at the scene on time and save her mom's life.

The daughter called 911 and managed to give the first responders their exact location. "As you were having your medical episode, she had given us information and she was talking to you, she just did amazing," Lieutenant Kevin Zigmond, a first responder, told the mom about Krista as the two of them went to thank the first responders who saved them. Jenna was really proud of her little girl. While Krista could recall the incident in great detail. "She was like, 'Call 911.'" The daughter was really scared because of her mom's condition, but she followed the instructions and tried to keep her calm. "I screamed really loudly. She passed out for like a couple of minutes, maybe a minute and a half." The mom's foot was close to the pedal, so Krista had to quickly get her to remove it from there.

"I told her to get her foot away, but then the car just started rolling, so I had to put it in park," Krista went on. She stayed by her mom's side and talked to the first responders as they arrived at the scene. "I think I heard her say the exit number and I remember saying, 'Yes, good girl, good girl' and that's it," Jenna continued. The first responders were also pretty impressed at the 11-year-old's brilliant emergency response and her collected demeanor throughout the situation. When the officers realized that the woman's son, Caleb, was alone at home, they sent someone to check on him. They even removed the car from the road, so it wouldn't get towed.
"I couldn't believe that they took care of all of that. Thank you is not enough, but I don't know if there are actually any words other than I am just so grateful," the mom said about the help from the emergency workers. The department also got a gift for Krista for showing courage throughout the harrowing situation. The girl was glad to receive the gift and expressed her gratitude for the same. The girl and the emergency workers were hailed heroes for their response.
