Mom records 6-year-old daughter singing Jelly Roll's 'I Am Not Okay' — singer responds with the surprise of a lifetime
We all have those days where we just can’t push ourselves to go about our schedules. Call it lazy days, quiet mornings or anything else, everyone has those periods where they want to sit it out or don’t have it in them to be up and at it for the day. A mom named Elizabeth Mary (@eliizabeth.maryy) shared that when her 6-year-old, Paisley Russo, was going through one of those days, she chose to lay in bed and remind herself that it's all going to be okay, per PEOPLE. The toddler chose to do this by singing with all her strength, artist Jelly Roll’s hit, “I Am Not Okay.” Watching her feeling her heart out and singing the song, the artist couldn’t help but surprise the toddler with a wholesome response.
The video captured Russo in her bed, covered in her sheets, singing aloud while the song played in the room. Completely to herself, this 6-year-old was having quite a moment. The visuals revealed how she was really trying to hype herself up while enjoying the artist’s masterpiece. What the girl didn’t know was that her mom was quietly recording her confident and honest expressions. "Woke up this morning and heard music coming from my daughter's room — caught her laying in bed, just zoning out to some Jelly Roll," Elizabeth wrote in her video. She added, "I guess even 6-year-olds need to remind themselves sometimes that it's 'all gonna be alright.'”
One couldn’t agree more and after listening to her sing quite a portion of the song, people knew it had to reach the artist. The mom even wrote in her caption, "If you ever need an opener for a show, this girl loves you and loves to sing/perform.” Tagging the artist and his wife BunnieXO, the video made its way to the artist’s feed. Jelly Roll was undoubtedly glad to know that his work was helping people having a mediocre day, even 6-year-olds. He chose to respond to Russo’s heartfelt singing with a comment. He wrote, “Maybe the best video ever.” He also reportedly reposted the video to bring a smile to the girl’s face. People are in love with Russo’s honest energy and relate to her on a massive level.

I am a 45-year-old and sometimes I need to sit back and listen to Jelly Roll.” @tovahlauren remarked, “Girl, keep using music to fuel your soul.” Mary shared a follow-up video revealing to her daughter that her favorite artist had taken note of her. The mom broke the news and the baffled toddler couldn’t help but gasp excitedly. “I’m going to say something to him,” she said.

Russo then shared a message for the artist, “Thank you for watching my video. I hope I can meet you one day and sing with you.” She even blew a kiss for the singer and was head over heels about the whole incident. Even BunnieXO commented, “Haha so cute—felt sister,” for which the mom-daughter duo was delighted and grateful.
