Mom was shaking as her twin toddlers had a meltdown on a plane — a flight attendant stepped in, and her response left the mom crying even harder
It is challenging to travel with kids. While many passengers see annoying, loud, or overbearing children, what they fail to notice are the parents who are struggling and trying their best to keep everything in control. A woman named Susan Narcoda Stang, who goes by @snac on Threads, shared a post on Thursday, August 13, 2026, recalling how one mom felt helpless during a Southwest flight when her toddler twins were throwing tantrums. She was shaken by the thought of what fellow flyers might think when a flight attendant stepped in with a heartwarming gesture.
Susan was just across from the mom, who was traveling with her husband and twins. Each of them was holding a baby, and both toddlers were bawling their eyes out. The tantrums were so bad that at one point, one of the kids accidentally threw their bottle at the passenger. She was understanding, but the parents were worried about being judged. That’s when the flight attendant, Jasmine, went over and took the baby from the mother. She carried the kid and comforted them, even sitting with them for a bit so the woman could catch her breath.
“What a saint!” the traveler remarked. The mom was shaking with fear, exhaustion, and embarrassment, and in that moment, the cabin crew member saw her need and assisted her. Those few minutes to herself helped her calm down. The fellow passenger knew it was bad because she later added, “I didn’t realize that after a while the mom was also crying because her baby had been crying and kicking for a while.”
One can only imagine how badly she needed that support. While Jasmine’s service was outstanding from the beginning, this gesture won hearts. As she tagged the airline, commending the employee, Southwest responded, saying, “We’re so lucky to have Jasmine on the Team!” Commenters could feel how much the mom needed that help. @ae_trout wrote, “That mama will never forget her.” @dawn_alex noted, “Don’t know what magic flight attendants have, but they can always calm a crying baby.” @nateallenbyrd exclaimed, "Way to go, Jasmine!!!"
Children yelling or behaving recklessly may not always be under the control of parents. While it is frustrating for passengers, a little understanding or help works far more than judgment. In another instance, a mom was embarrassed and exhausted from pacifying her crying toddler on a plane. The woman had tried everything from toys and snacks to even movies, but the child kept getting louder, and travelers started to notice.
Just when she braced for judgment and prepared to become the bad guy on the flight, a fellow traveler from a few rows behind walked up to her seat. "I saw you have some really cool cars. Can you show them to me?” she asked the toddler. This helped distract the little one, and the mom got a break from trying so hard. Additionally, she couldn’t help but feel grateful and relieved that instead of stepping up with criticism, someone chose to offer kindness.
