Neighbor called the authorities on homeowner over violations — they found more faults on his property and gave him a 10-day deadline

Despite the man trying to do something kind, the elderly resident was constantly criticizing him and ultimately had to pay the price.

If you’re going to act entitled, not only will you get nothing out of it, but you will also have to pay a price for it. A Reddit user who goes by u/PrawojazdyVtrumpets posted about a grumpy neighbor who would always try to get him in trouble, simply for having work done on his side of the property. When the elderly man called the authorities on him, it backfired unbelievably. The man was informed that the neighbor had broken far more rules than he had, and what followed was an inconvenient process to hastily fix everything. Sharing on Friday, June 12, 2026, he noted how he ultimately had the last laugh.

It all started when the senior resident complained about workers who reportedly were “on his property” because they had to fix an adjoining portion. Anytime the man called someone for repairs or maintenance, the neighbor would retaliate and berate them all. Eventually, he stopped looking after the patch, causing weeds to grow up to knee-length. As expected, it caused inconvenience for the elderly man, and he complained to the authorities. When they arrived, they saw little room for dispute and instead spotted more violations on the complainant's plot. “Nothing I can do to you, but he has 10 days to remove that fence. He also needs to weed his patio and edge the sidewalk,” the officer told the homeowner.

The man had been making the effort, not just for the upkeep of his land, but also so it wouldn’t burden the elderly person. However, the latter remained ungrateful and kept complaining. At one point, another group of guys was called to work on putting roses and pulling out weeds. This, too, was met with arrogance from the neighbor. This time, he threw insults at them and the homeowner. There was a lot the resident could have complained about when it came to the senior citizen’s home — there was “old, filthy aluminum from the 80s,” tall weeds, and so on.

Nevertheless, he chose not to bother him and instead minded his own business. Unfortunately, he couldn’t do much since the elderly neighbor called the authorities on his own, inviting the trouble. The old man's wife later approached the residents for splitting the cost, but they refused. In the end, he had to work on the fence himself since he couldn’t afford all the repairs.

Obnoxious neighbors are, unfortunately, a common dilemma. A survey of around 1,537 residents by Lending Tree revealed that 73% of Americans dislike at least one neighbor. 1 in 10 people have moved because they couldn’t put up with the next-door residents. “Rudeness” was among the top three (27%) reasons for disliking locals. Redditors were glad that the man got a taste of his own medicine.

u/Comfortable-Fly-5510 said, “Maybe he should've considered being a good neighbor? Then he wouldn't be out in the heat doing hard labor!” u/kidcoma001 joked, “You should have cracked open a cold one and set up a lawn chair to watch him sweat.” u/Chartra23 remarked, “You are a thoughtful neighbor and human being in general. Some people cannot be pleased.”
