The one thing many retired or elderly people need in their lives is company from their loved ones and friends. However, a woman in her 90s had been deserted by three granddaughters who hadn't visited her for around 13 years before her death at 96 years old. Nonetheless, she had found companionship with a neighbor's family after they moved into the house next to hers six years ago. So when it came to writing her will, the old woman made an important decision about her house and savings, per a now-deleted Reddit post by her neighbor, according to PEOPLE.

The neighbor had developed a great bond with the old lady over the years. The family had moved to the country after being promoted at their jobs. "When I arrived, I looked for a house in a nice neighborhood and when I finally found it in my first week, there was this sweet old lady who welcomed me with homemade cookies." She gradually became one of the old woman's best friends. "The only constant was this sweet old lady who, from time to time, was showing up and just wanted some company." They had gotten really close to each other and the old woman had shared quite a few things about her life. She was really alone as she had lost her husband around twenty years ago.

She had also lost one of her daughters to cancer and her three granddaughters never visited her in all those years. The topic of her grandchildren was quite sad for the woman, as she had no idea why her grandchildren never visited her. "Obviously, during the years she opened more and more and I learnt that she had three granddaughters who were living 20 minutes from her, but she hadn't seen them for 13 years." The neighbor added, "She didn't understand why and all she wanted was just some company and to see them from time to time." Nonetheless, the neighbor kept looking out for the old woman and provided her with everyday support and company.

She would also call the old lady to celebrate the holidays with her family. Around three months ago, the old woman died at the age of 96. Her granddaughters didn't show up to her funeral either. At some point, the neighbor got a call from the old woman's lawyer about her will. She wasn't expecting the call at all, but was surprised to know that her long-time friend had left her entire inheritance, including sizeable savings and the house, to her. The old woman wished the money to be donated to cancer research and hoped her neighbor could make good use of her house when she had children. But then her granddaughters reached out for the inheritance and accused the woman of manipulating their grandma. The neighbor had no idea about the lady's finances and the claims made by the three of them were baseless.

Nonetheless, the woman wondered if she should share the inheritance with the granddaughters and asked the internet for advice. u/Flashy-Funny8096 wrote, "She intended to leave it to you. Being blood-related does not give them the right to take it from you. You showed her kindness and truly showed her you care. You obviously meant a lot to her; otherwise, she wouldn't have written you into her will. I think you should dig your heels in and not give them money; it's yours." u/destro23 commented, "Well, it wasn't meant for her granddaughters. It was meant for you." u/tarnishau14 remarked, "I'd make three donations in memory of the old woman and put each granddaughter's name on it, but I'm petty like that."
