It is a known fact that people, including parents, need to be extra cautious around newborns. Being extremely delicate and fragile, even the way they’re held needs to be monitored. Many parents have a no-kissing rule, prohibiting every person, including family members in most cases, from kissing the baby. This is often done for health concerns and is expected to be obeyed by others. u/ThrowRAScreamingBans revealed in a post that her pediatrician had also advised against anyone except the parents kissing the newborn. However, when the woman’s mother disrespected her request, she had a bold and stern reaction.

The woman mentioned that her baby boy had a “weak” immune system and it was medically advised that no one kiss the baby for a while. The only exception were the parents and this was made clear to the mom. “My mom lives overseas and came to help out with the new baby. She is a doting grandma, but tends to do things her way so there have been a few hiccups,” the woman wrote. “I was very clear about this to my mom, who was resistant. I was firm and told her not to hold the baby at all unless she agreed to no kissing. So, no kissing was agreed,” she mentioned. To her dismay, the woman caught the mom casually playing and kissing the baby.

The woman was stunned at the disrespect and feared how long this had been the case. On confronting her mother, she received a casual response. She recalled, “My mom justified it by saying that the baby was now two weeks old and nothing bad had happened, so we could start building his immune system. She also said rules like these were why so many children had allergies nowadays.” The mom completely neglected the concern the woman had for her baby and this caused a tiff. The woman got reckless with her words. “I took the baby from my mom and called her a selfish cow. I told her that when the baby d*es from a preventable disease, it will be her fault and hers alone,” the post read.

The new mom agreed that she may have gone too far with her words but she was only looking out for the best interest of her baby. “I told her she was lucky I wasn't kicking her out, and the only reason I wasn't is because she has no place else to go,” she added. The mom was deeply hurt by the conversation and decided to leave with the notion that she was “not welcomed in her grandchild’s life.” The woman was even scolded by her aunt who told her she should “be ashamed of herself.”

When the woman questioned her impulsive reaction, fellow parents came to the rescue. u/Adalaide78 said, “My baby almost died of RSV. Which she likely wouldn’t have gotten if she wasn’t being kissed by every family member who picked her up. The only thing worse than sleeping in the hospital wondering if your baby is going to live through the night is going home without your baby because they didn’t.” u/MySoulsstardust added, “People need to stop being naive to how easily newborns can get sick from germs.”
