New mom was cradling her newborn when she noticed something unusual in his mouth — panic set in as she couldn’t believe her eyes
Childbirth is an overwhelming event, and every mother who has gone through the journey wouldn't deny the sentiments. However, sometimes, the emotions get all over the place when mothers get concerned about their baby. When Instagram user and new mother Isabelle Thomas (@isabelle.m.thomas) was sobbing and cradling her newborn, she noticed something unusual in his mouth, which caught her off guard. Sharing the moment captured from her son's birth on February 6, 2026, the woman revealed how the discovery led to "pure panic."
The 23-year-old was highly emotional as she was concerned that her baby was "purple" in color. The mom of two shared the video online, in which she was overwhelmed by her son's birth, but when she noticed something unusual, her heart stopped. She noticed that her son was born with not just one, but two teeth, as she was seen panicking, saying, "He has teeth! He has two teeth!" However, the doctors present in the room assured her that it was normal and there was nothing to be worried about.
In a follow-up video, Thomas revealed that it's completely normal for some babies to develop teeth right at birth, and that it is safe to breastfeed them. She also quipped that she breastfed her baby for eight months until he nearly bit her nipple. Some babies are born with teeth, a rare condition known as natal teeth. Unlike neonatal teeth, which appear within one month of birth, natal teeth are an extremely rare occurrence, seen in about 1 in 2,000 to 3,500 births, says Nature. These teeth are often yellow and dull due to underdeveloped roots. They typically appear in the lower gum and are harmless to the baby, per Stanford Medicine Children's Health.
As noted by the mother, these teeth can cause discomfort to the mother during feeding, and in some cases, they may irritate the baby's tongue. Often, pediatric dentists examine the teeth's strength and extract them if they cause problems. Thomas' reaction was completely normal, as many mothers feel anxious when faced with something unexpected. With proper rest and support during the early days after birth, new mothers can navigate such panic situations easily.
Soon after her video went viral, many users reacted to it. Internet users generally found the baby's teeth interesting, while some sympathized with the mother for her anxious experience. @cathresaann expressed, "She's terrified, this breaks my heart. My daughter didn't cry for the longest time. I was panicking that she had passed away and they weren't telling me. Being on an IV with meds makes you loopy, and it's so traumatic." @daniee.marieee mentioned, "My daughter was also born with teeth! They are extraordinary people, believe me!" @smalltowngring2025 remarked, "It’s ok! Can have them removed by the dentist. They are very soft and don’t hurt them at all. I was a pediatric dentist for 16 years."
