High school is where most students learn confidence and other values that shape them as individuals. One person recently shared an experience from their school days, revealing how they stood up for themselves, when they became the target of bullying. The post was shared on June 13, 2026, through a Reddit user who goes by u/shycnidaria. They explained that they were naturally skinny back then and were often uncomfortable when their body became a topic of discussion. Things became harder when a classmate started repeatedly making remarks about their appearance in front of others, turning a private discomfort into public embarrassment. When she wouldn't stop, they rendered a response that ended the bullying for good.

The person mentioned how they were never very self-conscious, but when their overweight classmate would comment on their body, they instantly felt insecure. She would often mock the teen, saying they "looked anorexic." She would make remarks like “Just eat a burger," "You look like skin and bones," in front of other students. One day, the situation reached a breaking point. They decided to come up with a comeback that wasn't disrespectful but served as a warning. They told her, “The next time you make a comment about my weight, I’ll make one about yours.” They set a boundary right away. The girl never body-shamed them again.

Many people often realize that setting boundaries is sometimes necessary when casual remarks turn into repeated disrespect. In this case, the person found a way to stop the body-shaming without escalating the situation further. Redditors praised them for being firm in their response. u/DVDragOnin said, "Your comment was really so gracious. You didn’t insult her, you simply told her the insult was coming if she kept up her behavior." u/VolatilePeach added, "Good on you for putting that girl in her place." u/AltruisticPoet3 remarked, "Very decent of you to give a warning." School days can bring many happy memories, but they can also involve difficult experiences. A freshman faced a similar scenario when a classmate repeatedly targeted them because of their weight. It affected their confidence and made them feel uncomfortable.

The bully would make animal noises whenever they passed by, turning their appearance into a reason for jokes. When the boy repeated the same act, the teen replied, “Oh, cool, you finally found your spirit animal?” The unexpected comeback left him surprised. The student also shared another sharp reply, saying, “Or are you imitating your mom?” After that moment, the bullying ended. They added that the experience taught them the importance of standing up for themselves when someone tries to hurt their confidence. Body-related comments can have a lasting impact, especially during teenage years, but finding the courage to respond can help regain self-esteem.
