Passenger refused to turn down his loud movie despite complaints on a flight — then the situation got even stranger after landing
Flying with entitled passengers can sometimes mean dealing with loud conversations, ignored requests, and behavior that tests everyone's patience. One traveler had to deal with something similar on a flight from Chicago to Cleveland. The traveler under the username u/Living_Werewolf7980 shared the experience on Reddit on August 20, 2026, explaining how one of their co-passengers refused to turn down his movie, which eventually forced the crew and the captain to step in. What happened when the plane landed looked even more bizarre.
According to the post, the passenger in seat 22F was playing a movie loudly enough that other passengers asked him to turn it down or use headphones. Instead, he argued, "I ain’t bothering no one," and even asked if anyone had AirPods he could borrow. It took two flight attendants and an announcement from the captain, who warned that the plane could return to the gate and he could be removed, before he finally silenced the device. But after landing, the post said he secretly took pictures of the person behind the post and their family while leaving the plane and also set up another confrontation at the gate, accusing the man of "feeling some kind of way." However, when 2 police officers and a security guard arrived, they handled it calmly and said this 'stuff' happens every day.
The person affected by the shocking incident said the passenger had already disrupted fellow passengers throughout the flight by repeatedly ignoring the crew's instructions. After finally turning off his movie, he made another phone call during the flight and one more after landing, which caught their attention. At the gate, the passenger gave a different version of what happened. He accused the other traveler of having a problem with him because of the language he had spoken on the phone, essentially trying to paint the situation as racist. The family then explained their side to a supervisor, who was understanding and said this kind of behavior happens "several times a day, every day."
Other users left plenty of reactions in the comments, many of whom felt the passenger had no reason to make such a simple request into a bigger issue. u/RexCanisFL pointed out, "'I ain’t bothering no one'. Incorrect, sir; you don’t get to decide that, and I’m telling you I’m bothered." Another user, u/Glen_Echo_Park, said, "Ignoring an FA will usually be enough to get you kicked off the plane." Others kept the mood lighter. u/doctorfortoys joked about the captain's intervention, writing, "Captain: I’m turning this car around!"
This isn't the first time a passenger's refusal to follow a simple crew instruction has turned a routine flight into a confrontation. In another incident, a flight attendant dealt with two passengers who insisted on putting multiple oversized bags in the overhead bins despite being told the rules allowed only one bag each. When one passenger became rude and refused to cooperate, the attendant stayed calm and told him he either had to leave the plane voluntarily or be escorted off the plane if he didn't agree to follow the rule. She eventually alerted security and the pilots and held boarding until the situation was resolved.
