Teen pushed a passenger’s patience for hours with seat-kicking and loud music — until his own dad unknowingly gave them the last laugh
Long journeys have a way of testing everyone's patience. Sometimes, one person's disregard for everyone else can turn an already exhausting flight into an unforgettable ordeal. That was exactly what happened to a Reddit user who goes by u/SalineCube99, who shared the experience in the r/pettyrevenge community on September 7, 2024. While flying from Brisbane, the traveler endured hours of a teenager's seat-kicking, loud music, and rude behavior before an unexpected seat change gave them the perfect chance to get even.
The opportunity for revenge presented itself after the teenager, who had spent much of the flight downing bottles of Mountain Dew, suddenly needed to use the restroom. Rather than rushing to move aside, the passenger stayed put and pretended to be asleep. When the impatient youngster attempted to squeeze past, his father, who had repeatedly apologized for his son's behavior throughout the flight, stopped him and insisted he wait instead of disturbing another sleeping traveler. With no way out of the row, the boy was left squirming in his seat as the minutes dragged by, giving the flyer a small but deeply satisfying sense of payback after hours of relentless disruptions.
Although some might argue the response was a little harsh, the teenager's behavior throughout the flight had already worn everyone's patience thin. He repeatedly kicked the seat in front of him, blasted loud music from his Nintendo Switch without using headphones, ignored attempts at polite conversation, and even responded with an offensive gesture when the passenger tried to be friendly. When someone consistently ignores basic decency, even the smallest dose of karma can feel surprisingly satisfying. In fact, according to Condé Nast Traveler, air travel etiquette remains a major source of frustration for passengers. A survey cited by the publication found that 64% of respondents ranked "rear seat kickers" as their biggest in-flight annoyance, while 59% said they were most irritated by inattentive parents who failed to control their unruly children.
Flying with ruthless passengers can test the patience of everyone on board. In another instance, TikTok user Paul Lee shared what he described as the "worst possible seat ever" after finding himself next to a crying toddler on a Vietnam Airlines flight. Throughout the journey, the child repeatedly cried and kicked Lee while wearing shoes. Although the constant disturbance tested his patience, the flyer chose not to confront the family. What caught viewers' attention instead was the mother's response.
Rather than apologizing or seriously trying to stop her child, she appeared to make only a half-hearted attempt before awkwardly laughing at the situation. While he remained calm throughout the ordeal, many online were far less forgiving, criticizing the parents' lack of consideration for fellow passengers.
