Sounds, along with smells and sights, can give people a major sense of nostalgia. However, there are certain sounds that only exist in people's nostalgic memories now. As our way of living and the technical devices that we use in our daily lives change, the sounds that come with them are changing too. Many sounds that were routinely heard have practically become non-existent now. So, a person on Reddit, u/Repulsive-Pitch2555, asked people in their 30s about these sounds. "People over 30: what’s a sound from your childhood that younger generations will never hear?" Many people shared common sounds from their childhood in the comments.

Several people shared that the new generation won't know about sounds created by cassette tapes and floppy disks, as these devices are no longer in use. The dial tone and the sound of customer care asking the person to call their operator can no longer be heard because they have gone out of commission in the past few decades. The sounds that manual credit card machines made cannot be heard either, because of the upgrade in technology. As landline phones are almost non-existent now, the sound of a person "slamming" the phone to hang up can no longer be heard. Here are 15 sounds that the younger generation will not hear, according to people over 30 on the internet.
