Attention to detail and quick thinking can make a big difference in any situation's outcome. A postal service worker experienced that firsthand when he noticed a minor detail in a regular customer's house. It prompted him to take a closer look and something was amiss there. He called 911 immediately after what he saw and his one action is said to have saved an elderly woman's life. The man, William Farrow, is being hailed as a hero for his act, per a statement from USPS (United States Postal Service).

Farrow was having a busy day, delivering letters and packages during the holiday season that year, when he noticed that the customer, Ann Richards, had not turned on her Christmas lights. As it was already evening, he decided to peer into the window next to the door slot and check what might have happened. He saw that there was an outline of a person lying on the floor and there was also some blood around this person. He knocked on the glass, but there was no movement inside, so the man knew what to do. The Winston-Salem postal worker immediately called 911 for help. Police, fire and medical units came to the scene to help the woman and got her to a nearby hospital.

Farrow stayed with Ms. Richards until first responders came in to help and then went on to finish his day's remaining work. A few days later, the man learned that the lady had been recovering well in a hospital's Intensive Care Unit and her son was really grateful for all the help Farrow offered in the difficult situation. "I was relieved to know she was okay. I wish I’d gotten there sooner," the man expressed. He was grateful that the woman was doing better after the harrowing incident. The postal service worker became an actual hero for the woman that day. He received the PMG Hero Award in February that year and was also given additional recognition by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC).

It was just a normal busy day for Farrow until he noticed the lights and helped the customer, per WXII 12 News. The man had never experienced such a thing in 14 years of being a postal service worker, but when he saw the woman, he just had a feeling that she was in "danger." It isn't known what exactly happened to Ms. Richards that day, but she was doing okay after she got to the hospital. The woman didn't want to appear on camera, but her family members felt that Farrow saved her life. Even the doctors believed that she could have died if Farrow hadn't noticed her on time. The man thought that he was just in the right place at the right time.

A timely 911 call can save a person's life. But a little boy had an entirely different reason to call the emergency number, per CBS News. The boy, Gianni, had a surprise for the officer who showed up at his doorstep and expressed that he simply wanted to give the man a big hug. The officer, Deputy Scott Pracht, agreed to give the boy a hug, but then also went on to politely explain how he was supposed to dial the number only in emergencies or when someone around him was hurt.
