Rude customer tries to harass Target manager over bizarre complaint — then learns strangers raised $34k for her
While everyone’s trying to do their best and make it in the world, mistakes are bound to happen. Instead of berating people for their mistakes, kindness and thoughtfulness can always be considered. A customer, David Leavitt (@David_Leavitt), was infuriated after a ridiculous encounter at a Target store. The man shared a post on X revealing that he had an unpleasant experience with a Target manager named Tori after she refused to sell a product per its display price for a reasonable point. However, Leavitt took matters into his own hands and dialed the cops to take action. Learning of the manager’s dilemma, people stepped in with unwavering support for her and left the customer shocked.
Leavitt visited a Target store where an electric toothbrush was advertised on display. The sticker mentioned the price of the display product to be 1 cent. “This Target manager, Tori, is not honoring the price of their items per Massachusetts law,” he wrote in his post. He also shared a picture of the manager along with the product. He added a description of the law that stated that retailers need to remain consistent with the prices they charge consumers. This law, however, applies only to food and grocery items, per Yahoo News. Moreover, the price on the sticker was clearly for the displayed product and not for a brand-new product, which was valued at $99.99.
The rude customer had a different thought process and refused to leave without receiving the toothbrush for a cent only. He added in a thread that he called the police to deal with the situation as he wasn’t going to let it slip. The police decided to support the man. “The police verified that Target displayed the price of the toothbrush for $0.01. The store manager refused to sell me the toothbrush for the displayed price. The police said I need to sue them and that they are making me a verified report taken to court,” he mentioned. In another tweet, he added that the police were willing to testify regarding the displayed price.
People were appalled by the customer’s actions and wanted to do something to help the manager. They commented that the man was being ridiculous and irrational with his argument. @grantmcauley wrote, “This is embarrassing. Plastering her face online while trying to take advantage of a clear pricing mistake is simply unnecessary.” @Photospice tagged him as a bully and said, “Why are you trying to publicly shame this woman? What a rotten thing to do.” @AnthonyMKreis said, “You need a pair of reading glasses and a new moral compass as it says 'display' and you’re harassing a hard-working employee by being obtuse.”
Dude, that price is for the display model, not for a new one. Clearly labeled.🤦🏻♂️ pic.twitter.com/aWOb9tF1CL

With the internet on Tori’s side, there was nothing much for Leavitt to do. The users started a GoFundMe page to support the woman. They added the description which included the customer’s name and credentials and said, “Harassed this Target employee over an electric toothbrush and then blasted her on Twitter to his 215k followers.” The page added that the woman deserved to go on vacation for which the money was being raised. Quickly, the page raised over $34,000 for Tori, along with unwavering encouragement.
