Most of the time when something unprecedented takes place, we panic. Despite knowing what we should do, we get so emotionally exhausted that it becomes a bit tough to take apt action. A similar unfortunate event took place in the Ashburn family in the wee hours of the morning, per Big Country Home Page. The family was fast asleep around 5 am when their 5-year-old Kennedy woke up restlessly. The mom, Candace, was trying her best to calm her daughter down. Amid this chaos and panic, Kennedy’s brother Kingston shrewdly saved her life.

The little girl woke up "screaming and kicking" uncontrollably, worrying her parents and 8-year-old brother. “We woke up to her jerking and I looked over at her and she was jerking uncontrollably. She was kicking and screaming and she didn’t know where she was, what was going on and I grabbed her and I kept telling her, ‘Hey it’s mom,'” the mom recalled. The 5-year-old had type 1 diabetes and her blood pressure had drastically dropped. This caused seizures and it was unbearable. When the mom thought she was gonna “lose” her daughter, her brother astutely sprung into action. He immediately dialed 911.

Kingston didn’t know much of what was going on. “I was scared. It was her first time and it’s just so scary. When someone’s type one, it’s scary,” he remarked. Luckily, the boy called for help and the first responders stepped in and saved the sister’s life. The Abilene Police Department rewarded the young boy for his quick thinking and swift action which helped get the girl medication and assistance just in time. Candace couldn’t help but feel pride for how smart and brave her son was to manage things despite the panic at the moment. “He made me proud. I’m so overjoyed, I mean, especially with the situation, it came out to be a great situation,” she said.

It was quite the experience for Kingston too. He mentioned that he was grateful to the medics who arrived in time to save his sister’s life. “I’m thankful for all the cops out there and the ambulance and the fire department,” Kingston noted. Having children learn how to use emergency helplines is crucial in today’s time. However, they also require courage and calmness to assess the situation and request help. In a similar instance, a 4-year-old managed to save his mother’s life after dialing 999, per the London Metropolitan Police. The kid ingeniously used his mum’s iPhone to ask Siri to dial the emergency services.
The boy thought his mother had died after she was struggling to breathe and her “eyes were closing.” He impressively used her fingerprint to unlock the phone and took Siri's help to dial 999. The dispatcher understood that it was a child on the other end of the line and continued the flow of the call accordingly. The dispatcher stayed on call with the 4-year-old, who managed to provide enough details for them to locate his home and help his mother. “Thanks to Roman's call, police and paramedics were able to get to his house within 13 minutes and provide first aid to his unconscious mother. She was taken to hospital but has since been discharged and is now back at home with her children,” the footage of the phone call mentioned. Roman was lauded for his quick thinking.
