Server puts man in his place with bold response after he makes careless remarks about his daughters' periods

For most people, their parents are their biggest supporters. When it comes to biological changes in a girl's body, like menstruation, unconditional care and support from parents make the new phase a lot easier. However, many adults are still stereotyped about this sign of puberty, which should be treated in a dignified manner. A woman named Savannah Pierce (@savkaypierce) ensured that a dad learned the same when he made distasteful remarks about his daughters' periods, per PEOPLE. As a server who attended the family's table one evening, she was shocked to see the dad’s careless and ignorant perspective about menstruation. When he began to sarcastically criticize it, she gave an apt response. 

The woman explained that she had a table with a family of four—a dad, a mom and two teenage daughters. As customary in several services, the server asked how the guests were doing. The dad sarcastically responded, “Other than women and their periods, I’m doing great.” The server was taken aback and took a moment before she decided how to respond. Understanding the setting she was in, she chose to remain polite and not create a tiff with the dad. She shared an empathizing gaze with the girls and continued to do her job. Once again, when the woman had taken the order and asked if the family needed anything else, the dad remarked, “Other than dealing with periods.” 

Pierce then decided to speak up against this harsh behavior. "Once he came around to the second time of making a comment about it, I just felt like it was making me uncomfortable, to a point where I'm like, 'Are you wanting me to dog on these girls too?'" Pierce said. She told the dad, “Are you feeling good about embarrassing your daughters right now? I gave you the first one but I might have to give you a little pushback now." The woman was sure to maintain a light-hearted and easy-going tone but she wasn’t letting go of the disrespect the man had shown towards his own daughters. 

“What’s the goal here? I don’t understand what you’re getting by telling me another gal is on her period,” Pierce thought. The dad rightfully got a reality check and “didn’t make another comment throughout the meal.” While things didn’t go bad, he took the onus of his remarks and decided to stop. Pierce mentioned that she didn’t want to aim at exposing the dad or calling him out. She simply didn’t have it in her to put up with the ignorant remark. So, when the dad understood, she was delighted. “Even that dad, he may have thought he was trying to make a connection with me and just missed the mark. It’s a good opportunity to remind people we’re all human,” the server noted.

“I had a dad who would never in a million years embarrass me or try to build camaraderie with someone by putting me down," the server told PEOPLE. She added, "Anytime I get the opportunity to do that for a young girl, especially in the South and especially relating to her reproductive health — that's not something someone needs to be shaming her about. I’m happy to be that person and put myself on the line,” Of course, her response to the man's remarks was lauded by many. @princessprime33 said, “As someone who was often like those daughters, thank you.” @kittykonvos added, “Thank you for speaking up.”
