She divorced her husband after he told her to lose weight — years later, a realization in her new marriage transformed her life
A healthy relationship should build a person's confidence, not tear it down over their appearance. For Instagram user Vanessa Wideski, a painful moment in her marriage became a turning point that changed how she viewed herself and her future. She shared her story on July 19, 2026, under the handle @vanessa.wideski, explaining that her first husband made a hurtful comment about her weight that affected their relationship. Instead of allowing those words to decide her worth, the content creator made a bold choice by divorcing, which changed the direction of her life. Years later, after finding love again, she reached a new understanding about her health and the person she wanted to become.
Wideski, executive director of The Low Entropy Foundation, explained that her first husband told her she was "fat" and needed to lose weight. Rather than changing herself to meet his expectations, she decided to leave the marriage. She recalled, "I instead left him and kept the weight," explaining that his comment felt like it was meant to hurt her. Later, Wideski met a new partner who accepted her without asking her to change. She gained weight while they were dating and eventually married him when she was at her heaviest. The relationship showed her she could be loved as she was, later inspiring her to choose a healthier lifestyle and lose weight.
She said, "He loved me for who I am," which gave her a different experience from her previous marriage. After some time, Wideski realized she wanted to focus on her health for herself, not because someone pressured her. She began working toward a better lifestyle and eventually lost more than 60 pounds. The weight loss journey helped Wideski become stronger and get into what she described as the best shape of her life. She explained that the change was not about proving anything to her former husband but about taking care of herself.
She also wrote in her caption, "When you stay in a relationship or a situationship because it's 'good enough,' you're signaling to the Universe that you're good." She added that there is "a whole 'nother menu just waiting for you to order from." The Instagram user encouraged people not to settle for small amounts of love or respect when they can have something greater. She ended with the reminder, "You deserve better than that."
Every relationship deserves respect, and it is important to walk away when it is missing. In another incident, a woman named Naea decided to end her relationship after her boyfriend made a hurtful comment about her appearance while she was asleep. She said he woke her up and told her she looked "ugly" without her usual accessories. Shocked by his words, she quietly left, packed her things, and returned home. She explained, "I didn't say a word," because she felt the comment showed a lack of care. Later, she questioned his actions, asking, "What makes you think that was okay to say?" and chose not to respond to his attempts to reconnect.
