She expected dirty looks when her dog jumped ahead of a lady in line at the café — but her sweet request caught the owner off guard
There's nothing more adorable than watching dogs wait for their pet parents to buy them their favorite treats. Golden Retriever owner Lauren (@laurenandcody) brought her canine companion, Charlie, to get him his favorite Krispy Square. But as soon as he got in line, he immediately pushed past the woman in front to stand ahead. Lauren, who was expecting to get dirty looks from the woman, was surprised to see what she did next. Sharing the adorable video with TikTok users on March 7, 2026, Lauren revealed how her canine companion "manipulates" people around him.
Lauren and Charlie were standing in a queue when Charlie decided to break the line. Lauren, who was embarrassed by her dog's behavior, immediately turned red-faced, expecting a lecture from the woman standing ahead. However, the woman's kind gesture floored her. She asked, "Is it okay if I give it to him?" In the clip shared by the TikTok user, the woman can be seen offering to buy the dog the $8 treat herself. Instead of getting offended over the dog cutting in line, the woman petted the dog with affection.
While Lauren repeatedly apologized to the woman, she insisted on getting him the treat and was also seen feeding him. "Look how manipulative he is!" Lauren quipped in the video. Charlie seemed unfazed by his pet parent, as he was seen busy munching the free treat he received from the kind woman. The adorable interaction between the woman and her dog filled Lauren with gratitude, and she thanked the woman for her generosity.
Canines can indeed manipulate humans! According to a study published in PMC, the human-animal bond is related to the human-infant bond, suggesting that animals can evoke oxytocin levels in humans. "Specifically, we consider the ability of companion animals to bond with humans as fulfilling the need for attention and emotional intimacy, thus serving similar psychological and adaptive functions as human-human friendships," the study noted. While a person cutting in line might lead to a quarrel, canines and other animals often get a pass and may even be rewarded with a free treat, just like in this case!
After the video gained traction, many users shared their thoughts on the woman's kind gesture. @Claire Dabinett recounted, "My dog did this... pushed in at a kiosk by the beach and bagged herself a free ice cream." @Laura mentioned, "He literally knew what he was doing…. Starts pretending to cough to get himself a caramel iced latte to wash it down with." @Kelsey Cloud wrote, "Charlie is allowed to push in line and be manipulative just based on his looks alone."
