She froze after spotting 3 guys on an isolated path — their casual comment proved men have no clue what women fear most
Women are known to keep their guard up by default, especially when passing unknown or questionable people and spaces. A TikTok user recently shared an encounter from her regular walk and how she was on alert while passing through a slightly secluded area. She noticed three men sitting directly along the path she needed to take, and their presence alone made her hesitate. However, a comment they made moments later showed they had completely misunderstood what was actually making her uncomfortable. The story was shared on her account @sister.sister.sister on May 5, 2026, and sparked discussion about how differently men and women often view everyday situations in public spaces.

The woman explained that she usually removes her headphones when approaching that particular stretch because, as she put it, “it is a little bit scary if you are a girl.” Seeing three unfamiliar men sitting ahead of her immediately made her stop and think. She debated whether to continue walking or turn around. Right then, one of the strangers casually said, “Oh, don't worry about him, he's fine.” At first, she was confused by the comment. Moments later, she realized he was referring to a large pitbull nearby. She was surprised that the trio believed she was terrified of the dog. The reality was that she didn't want to pass the guys just to ensure her safety.
The user worried that suddenly changing direction could be interpreted the wrong way and possibly create an uncomfortable situation. That's what caused the confusion in making a decision about her route. Her concerns, however, are not without reason. According to estimates from the WHO, around one in three women worldwide (about 30%) have experienced physical or sexual violence from an intimate partner or sexual violence from a non-partner at some point in their lives. Such figures help explain why many females remain alert in isolated public spaces, even when no direct threat is present. The person pointed out how the canine was not the issue at all. She even joked that she would have happily gone over and kissed the dog.
She eventually decided to pretend that the pitbull was what worried her and repeatedly asked if it was safe to pass before continuing on her walk. Many internet users later responded with similar experiences, saying they immediately understood her hesitation. @jaybird8590 wrote, "I hate how we immediately have to think of 'what to do.'" @mpoinsett expressed, "I can’t even feel comfortable wearing both my earbuds at the same time." @lexifickert said, "This is so true, and when I try to explain to my husband, he literally doesn’t get it." @chickettybabe commented, "We would literally choose a bear over a man. So no, we’re not afraid of the dog."
