First dates often come with excitement, nerves, and a hope that things will go smoothly. For one woman, Isabelle Treat (@belletreat), however, the experience took an unexpected turn the moment she met her match in person in Dallas, reported PEOPLE. The woman connected with a man online and felt things were going well. In her post shared on March 15, 2026, she was caught off guard when the man casually invited another couple to join their first date and laughed it off. The moment later divided the internet, with many sharing mixed reactions to how she handled the situation.

@belletreat I've never regretted choosing me! 💅 BUT FR WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?! #firstdatefail #storytime #amitheass #fypシ #whatwouldyoudo ♬ original sound - Isabelle

Treat mentioned that she had met the guy online and had FaceTimed him a couple of times before. They eventually decided to meet and planned a brunch. When he walked in, he came and sat next to her instead of sitting across, raising questions in her mind. She then explained that things quickly shifted when the man revealed the reservation was not just for the two of them. “This is where it all goes downhill,” she said. When the waitress came to ask if they were expecting more guests, the man casually said two others would be joining them. She initially thought he was joking, but soon realized he was serious about including his friend and his date, who were having their first meeting, too. This made the situation feel awkward and unexpected, and Treat decided to leave the date.

The woman expressed her discomfort clearly, saying, “I don’t know you, and now I’m meeting two new people.” What made things even more upsetting was that "he waited until the waitress came over to take our drink order to say all of that, like fully blindsiding me in front of her.” She explained to her date that she genuinely wanted to spend time with him and get to know him, and the least he could have done was inform her in advance. Treat added that getting to know the friends wasn't a problem, so long as it was later, around the third or fourth date. She stood by her feelings and made it clear that the situation was not what she had agreed to for a first date. “That’s not what I signed up for,” she confidently remarked.

The conversation ended with a bit of a tiff. Moments like these show how important clear expectations are, especially during first meetings, where comfort and trust are still being built between two people. Research from Medical News Today suggests that many people feel nervous on first dates, and some even experience dating anxiety due to fear of judgment or awkward situations. In such cases, unexpected changes like turning a first meeting into a double date can make the situation more overwhelming, especially when both people are still getting to know each other and building a sense of ease.

After she spoke up, the man apologized and offered to make an excuse for her leaving, but she encouraged honesty instead. Treat later asked viewers what they would have done, sparking mixed reactions online. Some supported her decision, while others felt they might have handled it differently. @dsl8645 wrote, "You overreacted. I would have stayed and had fun." @theotheranita expressed, "I actually wouldn’t have minded the double date scenario because it would’ve taken a lot of the one-on-one pressure off."

While a few other sided with her choice to leave. @applejacq23 exclaimed, "That is so weird, I would’ve left too." @jennifer_lauren91 mentioned, "I mean, it’s already exhausting meeting and getting to know someone, but adding 2 more to that? Nope!"
