Stranger shared his hotspot when a man’s gas-station payment failed — the grateful driver asked which car was his before making a surprising move
A little help from a stranger can be a moment you remember for a long time. Michael Li, who posts on Instagram as @michaelli_slaterlevin, was at a petrol station when he noticed a man struggling to pay because he had no internet connection. In a video he shared on October 28, 2026, he revealed that he offered to share his phone's hotspot with the man, thinking nothing more of it. But the man's unexpected response left him pleasantly surprised.
Michael explained that he was waiting to pay for his petrol when he noticed the man ahead of him having trouble completing his payment. It turned out his internet wasn't working, and he couldn't transfer the money. Feeling a little embarrassed, the man asked Michael if he could use his phone's hotspot. Michael happily agreed, and once the payment went through, he thought that it was the end of their interaction. But then the stranger asked which car was his. When Michael pointed out his SUV, the man offered to pay for his petrol as a thank-you. Michael initially refused, telling him, "I'm happy to help. You don't have to pay for my fuel." But the man insisted, wanting to return the kindness in his own way.
Michael said he was surprised by the stranger's generosity, especially since he had only shared his internet connection for a moment. The encounter made him think about how much a small gesture can mean, particularly when people seem increasingly wary of one another. He also thanked the man, who was driving a BMW M3, and wished him a good day.
