Struggling mom asks divorce attorney who 'saved' her for final invoice—the response leaves her sobbing

A divorce is a challenging process for the people involved. It brings several mental and emotional strains. Amid this battle, the financial burden of paying divorce lawyers while making a living for oneself adds to the struggle. A mom, who goes by @messydepressy6 on X, revealed that she was having a tough time getting her divorce. However, when it was finally done, she was relieved. To put everything behind and start afresh, she texted her attorney to pay her dues and close the account. However, the lawyer left the mom shocked with her response. “I asked my divorce attorney for the final invoice. I owed her $3404 and change,” the mom wrote in her caption.

She shared a screenshot of the conversation that followed. She honestly let her attorney know that she was struggling and that she wouldn’t be able to pay the whole amount at one time. When she requested to pay bit by bit, the woman offered her a comforting alternative. “You can just send me $150 to cover the actual expenses like the service, summons and whatnot and we’ll call it even,” the lawyer texted. The woman was taken aback. “You did so much for me and my kids,” she responded. The attorney was adamant and insisted the mom save up. “It’s the holidays. Save the money for the kids for Christmas, not for legal bills,” she kindly said.

The mom was moved to tears and gladly agreed. She added that she’d like to pay some more as and when she can. She also credited her attorney and expressed her immense thanks. “You saved me. I never would have gotten away from him if it wasn’t for you. You saved me from so many triggering events,” she noted. She mentioned that she could never repay the lawyer for her service which transformed her life. However, she was inspired by her justice. “I aspire to be an attorney with your kind heart when I’m all said and done,” the mom added.

“I never would have gotten through this divorce without her,” she wrote in the caption. In a thread, the woman mentioned that she had seen the tougher side of things and it pushed her to become a lawyer. What motivated and encouraged her despite the challenges was her attorney’s confident and kind stature. “I’m currently in school for criminal justice. I plan on being a lawyer and do things exactly like this,” she wrote. Several people commended the attorney for her graceful response and generosity towards the mom. @thecurz99 wrote, “That's amazing and so generous of her. Pay it forward in her name as a kind gesture.” 

@lexjeanne added, “Good lawyers are common, but lawyers that really care for you are rare.
