Teen's reaction after opening his first paycheck from McDonald's is absolutely wholesome
Nobody really forgets the first time they earn something. First paychecks are always special to every individual. It doesn't matter if the sum is small or large, first paychecks give us the first taste of financial independence. A mom named Nene Azizia Mathis, who goes by @matthismommi on Instagram, shared a sweet video of her teenage son Jaylen receiving his first paycheck. His reaction after opening the envelope to reveal his earnings left the internet reminiscing about their first paychecks.
Mathis speaks about her son while she continues filming him. "Alright, so we have my baby opening up his first cheque. He says it's going to be $200. So here we go," Mathis speaks from beyond the camera as Jaylen tears open the envelope with excitement. Jaylen reads through the cheque and reveals that he received $283 after tax. He takes a moment to process the amount he has received after working hard in the service industry, then explodes into proud laughter as Mathis cheers his achievement.
Many people in the comment section on the video congratulated Jaylen and left heartfelt comments. @_bennettrodriguez_ wrote, "Aw man. That takes me back to my first check I went straight to the bank with the biggest smile on my face. Maybe it was about $150-$200 but I felt like a king. Congrats lil buddy." @shannonpierce428 commented, "The pure excitement on his face is priceless. That’s what it’s all about. You're doing good Mom." @audioroach joked, "Welcome to the hamster wheel young man."
The video was also reposted on Reddit by u/ExactlySorta where it received more appreciation from the users. u/___multiplex___ noted, "I love that his first move is to go to the bank. Gotta protect what you earn. Hope he learns about investing early on too so he can see some monster returns a few decades down the road. They honestly should teach a class in investing in middle and high school so we can hit the ground running in our twenties. Imagine how much wealth we could build if like, 70% of young adults were vested in the market for 30-40 years. Doesn’t even really take that much dough either, a few hundred here and there will do it."
u/CrustySockTosser quipped, "All truth be told, I miss the days when $283 was a lot of money. I miss being a kid. My next check drops tomorrow and is going to be to the tune of probably 1800 bucks take home and I won't see a cent of it due to mortgage and a vehicle loan." u/Cyberdyne_Systems_AI added, "Bro, I started at $4.25 an hour in 1997. I remember leaving shift and buying an 8-pack of Energizer batteries for $8.79. After taxes, it took me about 3 hours of work just to get eight batteries. I knew then I was going to college."
